From your previous posts on this subject, it appeared you were having a hard time deciding, getting opinions for the last two months.

It also looks like you had ordered an M3 a week and half ago

I wonder why the OP feels that M3 is a bit slow off the line. Maybe it's due to the different throttle mappings between M3 and 550? But I always have to be gentle with the throttle in first gear to avoid spinning my tires, so I'm kinda confused about this observation. Maybe somebody who owns/has driven both cars can chime in?

Torque. The 5 has almost twice the torque (450@1750). It may be heavy, but that is a lot of back seat feel, with very little physical effort required of the pilot.

One thing I did notice, quite a few immature punks do drive M3s...
Hey TroySmith I noticed you made a new account to make a few negative comments about the M3, now who is the immature one?

I'm in agreement. Obviously with the manual you can rev the engine a bit and get the engine into more "torquey" area, and with the DCT, if you just punch the accelerator the revs jump a bit before clutch engagement and the car takes off quite quick. Generally when my wife is in the car I leave the power button off because I find quite a bit of "take-off" power.

With that being said, its nothing like the chunky 550; much more torque overall in that car, but the M3 driven correctly, you can make it jump just fine.

Try the M3 sedan at least. Closer to a sedan feel. Rough ride and loud? Drive an M3 back to back with a 911S. The M3 will seem plush!
Even if you live in the city, will you actually be driving the car there or just driving out? Not too hard to avoid the potholes while coming in and out. Also try driving the M3 with 18s instead of 19s. Makes a fair difference.
As everyone suggests, also try that 550i. Even without the sport package, the BMW is a much sportier ride than the MB.

Something tells me you would enjoy the 550 more. Go with a 550 with the M package.

For the record, I just hauled 2 sacks of fertilizer and potting soil into the trunk of my coupe while my X5 was enjoying the warm weather in the driveway. So much for an M3 being just a sports coupe. It's also my hauler.

Yeah, OP is lost. Clearly he has no idea how to drive an M3 and doesn't understands anything about it, the gearbox, the engine, the suspension, etc.

You seem like you're looking for a straight-line car, get a 550i. I had one, have driven the new F10 550i for many hours (it's a great car, plenty of power). But it's a completely different car than the M3.

M3 is a great DD, don't listen to the "don't get one if you don't track it" camp, they're smoking the good stuff.

Get what you like, what you enjoy, what makes you feel good.

And stop trolling

I'll tell u what's great about M3. It makes people jealous even if they were driving 550, AMG or whatever. For some reason it just does. Does this ring a bell in your case??

The M3 was a rough ride, loud and a little slow off the line.

Maybe it was too cold and the car not sufficiently warmed up? Maybe the M3 did not have the EDC, maybe the testdrive was too short on pot hole ridden northeastern roads? Maybe I am just so used to riding in big comfortable cars in the past several years - not cars that you can feel?

I really wanted the M3 but afraid I would be making a mistake having it as a DD in the NYC Metro area? Am I missing the boat here?

What makes it better than the 550 as a DD? I won't be going to the track.

Thanks

The 550i and the M3 are two completely different cars. Do you want a sporty luxury sedan, or do you want a sports car you can take to the track? The M3 is not built for luxury or comfort. It's going to make you feel every bump in the road. The M3 is significantly faster than the 550i too.

At least don't have to deal with the RFTs with the M3.

From the sound of your post, you are definitely a better candidate for a 550 then an ///M. Think you will be happier with a 550 Msport.....just my .02 though.

Cheers,
