I guess everyone has a different threshold for pain. I didn't find it to be terribly difficult. In fact the hardest part was determining all of the part numbers required for the retrofit as none of the vendors wanted to give that information away.

Yep...the front & rear piezo speakers are interactively enabled for spatial cues.

Very nice thread. I have the rear PDC and was considering retrofitting the front on my 335i. Just wondering, what were the costs (since I don't see it in the posts)?

Hi tlp,
I was inspired by your post to do the retrofit on my 2009 335xi coupe. I got all the parts and few parts were extra, I will post all that information and my exerpriance later. For now I need your help. I am getting the following message after I installed Front and rear PDC sensors: "SOS call system malfunction!" I can not run CD, DVD, bluetooth, radio, or any audio. My SOS button is functional. Everthing else is functional except entertaiment. I did not encode/program the pdc yet (still trying to figure out how). Do you have a picture to show where did you connect B1, B3 & B4 cables? This PDC retrofit was not easy at all. I had to do it over four days with two of my friends helping, we hit many road blocks. The biggest one so far is my front bumper carrier is not compatible with front PDC sensors. There is no space between the front bumper and the carrier, it is impossible to fit the two middle front sensors. The other challange was to wire the front PDC sensors from the bay engine to the interior. We had to remove the DME and the white plastic holder to have access to the available extra nipple below it. Removing the fuse box was a sad storry too. It was very hard to unscrew it since there is not much of space to do that and there are no instruction to state that I had to remove the fuse box to be able to connect B2 cable. I will be writing up my experiance but again, I really need help to know if you got the SOS malfunction message and if you have pictures to show where did you connect B2, B3 & B4. |

^Interesting. We did this a few weeks ago on a buddy's car. While the install was time consuming, there was nothing difficult per se in the installation.

Update September 8, 2013
Note: I was able to run PDC (with issues) and the car had SOS malfunction errors (fixed).. I am posting this just to communicate what I have done so far. My front and rear sensors retrofit project was 90% successful with outstanding issues related to front rebar. Because of the time required to post four days of work in one message, I will break down my experiance and I hope someone can help with the issues I have. I will strat by posting the parts number I purchased. QTY Part Number Part Name 1 66200418637 Parking Distance Control Installation Kit - Front 1 66209225824 Control unit PDC 1 61319181182 REP. Update September 8, 2012
Issues: ------------------------------------- Error messages I had so far but not longer there: 1. 4x4 error (the error is gone after I drove the car and it is no longer there) 2. Chassis stabilization malfunction! (the error is gone after I drove the car and it is no longer there) 3. Start-off assistance inactive! (the error is gone after I drove the car and it is no longer there) 4. SOS call system malfunction! (Error gone, it was because of fiber cable I disconnect in the pedal trim - I used old BMW front pdc installation instruction which instruct me to do so. Later I found I don't need to get near pedal trim cables) Issues with other systems: - Radio, DVD, CD, iPod, bluetooth, internal music in the harddrive all all not functional (Fixed - fiber cable disconnected) ----------------------------------- Issues with the physical components: - The front bumper carrier is not compatible with the front sensors. It is very close to the bumper and there are no curves in it. I can't even fit the plastic sensors holder. (yes I drilled the holes in the correct location). Trust my, the front bumper carrier is not designed to allow any sensors to be installed. I am going to the dealer today and complain, there were no document to state that I need to replace the front bumper carrior and the dealer told me after checking my cars VIN number that I can install front sensors. I had to cut my front rebar to fit front middle sensors. Both middle front sensors they go off from time to time because they are sitting on top of the rebar. I am thinking to install M3 rebar but I am not sure if the M3 rebar is shorter than 335 rebar. I tried 335 2011 rebar, same issue, there is no enough distance between front middle sensors and rebar ---------------------------------------- Coding: This is the coding that I have done so far. Using the Expertmode Profile 1. In the FA - Removed $507 and added $508 2. FA_WRITE - CAS 3. FA_WRITE - NFRM 4. SG_Coderien - PDC 5. SG_Coderien -CIC Edit: The only open issue is that the PDC proximity sound comes from the Piezo buzzer instead of the audio speakers. I thought it was the audio speakers before, cant remember. Sam,
I have not seen or experienced that issue. I have also coded a few cars for this mod and they did not mention any errors or issues as well. I would go back and retrace all of your wiring to make sure that it is correct. Also, make sure that you didn't inadvertently disconnect anything when you were routing the wires. My install previously had rear PDC and I just added the front. A full PDC retrofit can be time consuming. Good Luck.

I just got back from the dealer and they said the front bumper carrier part number that I have is 51 117 147603 or 51 114 871055. They said that I can NOT get front bumper carrier that support PDC in NA and they will not recommend or suggest anything. BMW Canada said my car can NOT have front PDC.
I already drilled my front bumper so I am kind off stuck now. |

If you're a DIYer... would you mind sharing this coding? Hopefully it's just a value change in some module? I can't find any PDC coding info on Neutrino45's spreadsheet. I'm about to tackle my rear PDC retrofit this weekend. Thanks so much.

For starters, you will have to add the VO of 507 [Rear PCD Only] to the CAS and NFRM modules. Then you may have to "Code Car" or some individual modules fo r it to ultimately work. If that statement is foreign to you go to b m w c o d i n g [dot] c o m. That's all I have.

if so, can you tell me what codes have you done? does this retrofit allow you to put visual feedback on idrive? cus i've read somewhere else that the retrofit kit only allows the beeping, but no visual feedback on idrive. anything else you would need to install except for the retrofit kit and PDC ECU module for the visual feedback to work too? |

It depends, I picked the my sensors used and pre painted on eBay. The rear spacers are the same part as the front. I sold my rear only PDC module on eBay after the fact. At the end of the day I think I was at $489.

Hi,
I am considering to retrofit my 2009 335i xDrive coupe (US) with rear PDC and maybe front if the rear works well. But I am having problem figuring out what are the correct parts so I can buy them. Sam33 did you resolve your issue, I am still reading across the thread. Can anyone help me of clarify to me what is teh correct part number for the PDC Control Unit thats is compatible with my car. I have the below 66209225824 or 66209252638. To add to the confusion there are other part numbers i found but seems they are discontinued so i don't know if i should get any of them and if they are compatible with my car 66206982402 or 66209225825 or 66206982403. ALso are they only for rear or front&rear Any info on this will be greatly appreciated |

That could be another route that I might go.
I just wanted to see if I can get the rear PDC since I wanted it on my car but missed it along with active cruise control |
