its difficult to find pics of one with the wheels off, but it doesn't look like they have much room for wider tires. big gaps make for bad aero, so i doubt bmw left much room anyways. its just not that kind of car.

I did some instrument accel testing of my i8 and second e92 (stock). The i8 has more grip off the line esp in wet for sure but in the dry they are pretty even on the 0-60, 1/4 mile and trap speed. Both around 4 flat 0-60 (1-foot rollout), 12.4@113 mph on the vbox and dragy. Although launching the M3 is much more difficult and getting those numbers takes careful prep of rear tire pressure and careful execution of the launch technique (i have literally thousands of launches on this platform). Launching the i8 is simple. So for most people in most situations, don't attempt to race one from a stoplight unless you know what you are doing.
The M3 would lap the i8 at just about any track. I take some sweepers in the low triple digits with the M3 (stock with GMG alignment+Cup2's) where the i8 was fighting me at 75 mph. Steering on the i8 is terrible. Transitions are pretty good and instant torque will make you an auto x king like a Tesla Model 3. Who cares about Auto X tho. And you think the stock M3 brakes are bad? Wait until you are 130mph and try to stop in the i8. Almost shite my pants. I would bet that if I even tried to do one fast lap with the i8, the tires and brakes would melt. The i8 used as the Pace Car for the electric F1 has AP racing brakes, different wheels/slicks, and suspension upgrades for sure. The i8 is an enigma. I had it for a purpose of driving to work only. For that purpose it was a nice car like a Prius is a nice commuter.

Uk ok, well I had mine up to 202mph with only an intake and no tune at sea level and a perfectly flat road but ok.

I didn't use my GPS during this top speed run but when the speedometer hit 200 it pulled a little further to what I can guess is 202mph at which point I let off. But yes realistically I was going 185 maybe 190mph. |

I've read that 305 km/h has been documented in a stock E9X. So 189 mph. I can't imagine what that feels like, though probably less violent than 140 in my old turbo DSM car with the broken sunroof latch.
