i've thought of switching to the escort but i really don't see how to live without the arrows. it's really helpful knowing where the radar is coming from and then watching it switch as you pass by.

the V1 becomes much less annoying with false positives after you go into the programming options and configure k band automuting.

the arrows are cool, but that's the marketing hype working. Why need to know where the cop is? All you need to know is to slow down until the speed trap is passed

Exactly. I have Escort Max and I love it. I used to have 9500ix which was great as well, but Max has more range and is way faster than 9500ix.

Most people that find the V1 annoying do not have it configured correctly. My V1 never cries wolf.

It's not all marketing. If the V1 goes off and the arrows show the signal to my side it highly unlikely that it is a police radar unit, unless it is in the Ka band. I'll slow down for any Ka band signal. If it X or K to my side, I can ignore it as coming from some other source. Generally I ignore all X band as that is automatic doors etc. K band coming from the front or back could be police radar so I will slow for that alarm, just not the ones coming from the side.

Without the arrows, all you get is the beeping and you slow down not know the direction of the source so you assume the worse and slow down. The added information from the arrows allows me to make some choices.

Is it better than GPS systems that mark false signals? Not saying that, simply saying the arrows are very useful to me... Been using one for almost 10 years with no tickets.

You need a complete system consisting of radar for ka band and a laser jammer to avoid stationery laser based tickets. I run the Escort system, with two jammers in front and one in the rear. pricey but no tickets to-date.

I quit counting at 1,000,000 miles behind the wheel. No B/S. I have been a manufacturer's rep for 26 years. I have run those miles spiritedly, against the clock a lot, through 3 mini vans, an Izuzu Rodeo (OK weak moment!), two Tahoes, a GMC Envoy, a Ford Edge and now a Sport Trac. 3/4's of those miles were without a radar detector. Since I started running with one, zero speeding tickets. ZERO. I do not want to count how many I had in the first 750K. Bitch all you want about style, arrows, noise, distraction. What my V1 has saved me in fines and insurance costs far outweigh any inconvenience or affront to my aesthetic sensibilities. You want to be less distracted? Put down your phone, turn off the nav and drive the freakin car! In all those years I have never seen such bad driving as there is on the highway these days. So yeah take your radar detector out. If you have a V1 for sale PM me 'cause I am gonna do a hard wire with a blend mount in my M. I will be sure to wave at you pulled over with Officer O'Malley leaning in your window as I fly on by!

I was a long time V1 user. Made the change to Passport Max due to the ridiculous amount of falsing I got with the V1. I will tell you that the Passport is just a much more advanced detection tool. Like anything, you have to learn how it works, and how it is giving you information, but I will tell you that I do not miss my V1 arrows.

V1 is the best, if you don't like it you don't know how to use it. I had tickets up the azz until I bought it 5 years ago....now nothing and I drive faster than ever. Also, if you don't know how to install it and use suction cups...yea it looks like hell. However, if you install it right it looks OEM. Simple yet sophisticated like the BMW interior.

I think it gives a false sense of security as I know of no cops using old radar and all using instant on or laser which unless you have a speeding car somewhere in front of you get hit and you pick that up you are screwed. Its not able to see those methods so you cannot ever drive in excess relying on v1 so what's the point?

Wide open highways it works OK but it really hasn't helped. Common sense has saved me. Know local areas cop sit, don't be crazy and blend in. I got rid of mine last montg

That's fast for you on the freeways

I thought the same before, but after having mine, it's really good to know that they are behind me now and I've already past them when my arrows are showing the opposite direction.

Will research this further. But in reality, I just need to know 1/4 mile ahead and that's plenty of warning for me to Slow The F!@# Down.

I only use the Ka/Laser on my so when it goes off, it's not crying wolf.

In the SF Bay Area, the Waze app is super popular with both iPhone and Android users. By having this app with V1, I haven't been pulled over for speeding at all. Knock on wood.

Two tickets in 20 minutes with my V1 on the way to Willow Springs. Sold the M3 and the V1 with it It did have a flashy 'in the rear view mirror' mount that looked really cool though.

I would say no. Both times, as soon as it sounded, they were right there beside me. They were hiding right over a rise in the road

Decided to go without now. I think the fear keeps me more alert!

Well my speedo is a good 5mph off at 50 so I'm guessing more at 70-80. Maybe I was only driving in the lower 70's after all.
