So, of course, I've been checking twice a week for this app, sometimes more frequently...and when it does arrive.... my M3 is at the dealer since this morning, until tomorrow afternoon, to have a little bit of stuff done! Well...anyhow, you are all 'welcome." Ha. LOL
- V . P.S. And...first impressions? I have to live vicariously right now... .

So I don't have BMW Apps in the M3, but I do in the X5M. It says it doesn't support Throttle, RPM or Fuel data for this car. Curious as to which cars support all the features? Or maybe my car needs a software update for this?

So I'm home, and on my 2013 M3, I was able to get RPM, throttle%, braking g force delcel, fuel use (MPG), speed, G-force, and a visual indicator of steering angle. It also gives you an weather temp and cloud/sunny condition. It allows you after the fact to designate a finish line, so that it can calculate laps. I tried it a couple of times during my commute home, and it saves each file based on your GPS, so it named them based on the street I was on when I started.
So it looks like I have full functionality. Now I just need to find out about the pre-programmed "tracks". I hope they have those, otherwise it's going to be really hard to have the ghost comparisons as people could put their finish line in different spots so it may not match up form person to person.

They originally designed the app to do so much more and it looks like they had to tone it down last minute and disable features for safety/legal reasons.
o Same data shown on iPhone is visible on the iDrive. Cancelled this feature out. o "Create your own lap" feature. So you can make a "race track" from the grocery store to your home for example. Cancelled this feature out. I will have to play with it to see what else they removed.. It's a shame because I was very much looking forward to the on screen (iDrive) visualization's. They were really cool.. And the app proved to be useful for more than being on-track. Not really the case anymore. Anyone else realize this?

There was never any visualization on the iDrive screen, even in beta form. See our video below (starting at 7:22). When the phone is plugged in and recording all you get is an M logo and confirmation that the app is recording. And of course you can make your own track.

Yes and no. In other words, it is, but you can still download it.
Go to settings and choose Itunes and App Store then click on your iTunes id and select view. Change your location to be US. Then enter payment information, choose Method to be None. Next put in any valid address (only need the city and state - I chose Cupertino CA for the irony of it). Then put in a phone number with a 3 digit area code and (I think) 7 digits for the rest. now you are done. Go back to this post and click the link - and you will go straight to the app in the US iTunes store. Once you have downloaded it, you will of course have to set your details back using the same method as above to be your home location. Takes 5 mins from start to finish and you will have the app. Good luck! |

I don't think this app supports iOS 7 yet. It just crashes all the time
EDIT: Nevermind, it's working now. Last edited by bimmerJP; 10-03-2013 at 07:53 PM.. |

Data types I see right off the bat in the record: Map Throttle RPM Fuel G-Force Of course I have wheel position as well via the wheel graphic and speed is overlay-ed during the playback on the map. When I run the BMW App I have on the Control display: Stop/Record M screen (just shows the M logo as best as I can tell) The breadcrumb track sketch (generated on the fly) G-force view Sessions. |
