C6GS and Z are the best looking vettes ever built IMO. And they both back it up
Buy now! Even in a C5Z you’d never miss the revs. Power everywhere all the time. In the C6 Z06 you’ll have to get used to extremely tall gearing and using 1st a lot. I think the sweet spot is the GS. LS3, big wheels and tires, money left over for mods and a little (just a little) comfier |

I should have forced you into a ride in my M3 so we could have trumpeted around. Then you'd have no choice

I've been curious about that first gear. I hear you can do the entirety of your Road and Track 0-60 testing in first. Quote:

One pull to redline in Obiobans car would sell anyone on the awesomeness of the S54. The sound is so raw, ferocious, mechanical and classic BMW. The E46 seems a lot easier to shed weight on as well compared to the E9x.
One good thing about the Z4M is if you buy a nice one, and keep it nice, your not going to lose on depreciation. I doesn't seem to have spiked the way E46 M3's have, and doesn't have the subframe problems (although I could be wrong about that). |

A full bolt-on C6Z with coilovers is showing its ass to almost anything on the track. And they're plenty of fun on the street, at least to me. That LS7 at WOT is hard to beat...
I'd get an '08+ as they received a newer/better trans, the TR6060, and a bigger dry sump tank, or even better, an '12+ as they had some upgrades from the ZR1 available(ie PTM and mag ride). And if you don't like it, you can flip it pretty easily. Last edited by See5; 05-06-2019 at 09:53 AM.. |

Also, if you're going full-special, the ZR1 is dropping into the attainable-for-idiots range
$52k for one with 52k miles on it and it's even the right color

I think I'd rather have a C7 Z06 for that kind of money (just as fast and handles better), but damn have those come way down in price.

Bought an 08 C6Z06 new and tracked it a lot.
At the end of the day, I couldnt get past the interior and the at-the-limit handling. Sure with a bunch of parts it was really really faster than 98% of the cars there, but if I ever drove 10/10ths, I knew it was a matter of minutes until it did something unexpected with the back end. 9/10th all day long no problem. Go for that last tenth (of laptime or otherwise) and theres always a high-speed corner exit or section that you cant lift when it would repeatedly put me in my place and my sh!t almost in my pants. I won several regional AutoX trophies with it on Hoosier A6s in SSM, so I do have reasonable at-the-limit skills. THere are a lot of people who feel like they're at the limit on the track going slow in very fast cars. I think a lot of people who track C6Zs are those fast-car-slow types. My 991 TTS driven hard on the track is actually too fast to be fun at a standard track day in Advanced. It's a thing, I promise. Also, no matter how fast a street driven Z06 is, someone's always bought some stripped racecar out who's happy to show you who's faster. A well prepped 911, M3, Cayman, etc won't try and kill you like the C6Z occasionally does. My future track beast is a GT3RS. |

The more I dig, the more I think something like a Z4MC would be in my alley. I've had a lot of stupid, powerful cars in their own bad chassis, so I of course miss the brute power I know a C6Z can deliver. I'm fearful that an S54 may leave power to be desired in the long run despite the sensational delivery. What drove you up the wall for the interior? Fit? Materials? Rattles? Ergonomics? D) all the above? |

Visceral, was the StabiliTrak + PTM stuff still too aggressive in the higher modes? The C6 system, even in the ZR1, isn't as sophisticated as the one in the C7. I actually prefer running with things on but dialed back so I do have a bit of a safety net in case I do something stupid.
I'm not exactly competing for trophies so if it occasionally intervenes and costs me a 1/2 second but saves me from a potentially nasty spin, then so be it.

Just look at the lap times for the C&D Lightning Lap, Nurburgring, etc.
C7 Z06 lightning lap: 2:44.6 C6 ZR1 lightning lap: 2:51.8 C7 Z06 Nurburgring: 7:10 C6 ZR1 Nurburgring: 7:26 The C7 has more power, weighs only about 100 pounds more, more tire, more modern electronics, more aero. It's going to be at least as fast as a ZR1.
