View Poll Results: What are your thoughts on painting OEM alipers on an Interlagos Blue M3?
Caliper paint is for Honda's. Don't even think about it. It will look terrible even if done right 45 47.37%
If done right, it could look good, but it could also look cheap and ricey if you don't do it right. 40 42.11%
Go for it, but I would say do a different color besides yellow on an IB car (please specify) 10 10.53%

My rule of thumb: If you have to ask, then you already know the answer My vote is no, I'd never paint the OEM calipers.. I think it will look cheap.

I don't think its that bad. I was really on the fence (because the stock calipers are nothing to brag about) and i said whatever ill paint it blue and if it looks bad, ill paint it back black.

I actually really like my calipers painted blue. I got the G2 caliper paint and it has held up great... See below pic

^ They do look good! It helps that they are dark and match the body color. Painting them red or yellow would not work in my opinion..

What paint and color did you use? Looks good. Have been contemplating doing this color on my alpine white coupe.

I painted my stock calipers monte carlo blue using the G2 caliper paint to match the color of my car. I have gloss black wheels so the blue calipers aren't really noticeable. They do have to be cleaned often as brake dust builds up quickly. They don't stand out like I thought they would which might be a good thing. I'm currently thinking of painting them gloss black. G2 paint is excellent and gives good coverage, however I noticed that it has actually melted and dripped onto the barrels of my wheels after tracking the car.

I just polished my calipers with a DA Polished and it brought them back to factory shiney appearance. Now all I need to do is just a light wash here and there. So if you want black, try using a heavy grit polish first.

They look great man! Im leaning towards powercoating as well. Just seems like a more permanent solution than paint which could flake off.

It seems to me the BMW Performance Brake Calipers I've seen are BLUE or GOLD. I'm going to try GOLD with CLEAR COAT.

Here is a photo of GOLD painted calipers (without CLEAR) on a 335i I owned.

I really didn't like the GUNMETAL GRAY with ///M sticker job I did on my 335is. They might have looked better without the stickers?

Haven't looked, but one factor for me would be the color of the car. If you had a green or yellow base color, that would be a closer call with yellow painted calipers.

Good luck OP!

Well said mate. I totally agree. Don't worry about other people's opinions, especially the negative ones.
I'm going neon yellow on my E46 stock brakes now

Kinda odd bumping a 5+ year old thread, and responding to a quote that's 8 years old, just to make that comment?

And generally speaking, if someone doesn't want to deal with possible negative opinions, then maybe not solicit opinions at all on a public forum.

Also, this isn't an E46 forum, just in case you missed that part.

Did you use the standard G2 blue color or did you pay extra for paint matched?
