Besides, there are other ways to get rid of drone. (Look at Active Autowerke and Eisenmann). Dave

Same as the E46 one, then. having fake tips is totally bogus, IMO. I would not even consider this.

So for $2300-15% rebate you get a very reasonably priced exhaust from Dinan

I think it's just an excuse because they just couldn't figure out how to make a 4 active tip solution work... Just look at all the exhausts on the market with 4 tips with no drone and the same or even more performance gains. Though I do appreciate Steve Dinan's efforts in explaining some technical info behind exhaust designs. |

I've got the Active Autowerke Signature, which has two external chambers. I like them, but others dislike them, so you can't please everyone, no matter what you do. Dave

What Mr. Dinan didn't factor in is that the exhaust looks really stupid in cold weather when it's completely obvious only half of the tips are functional. Looks horrible IMO.

Some people will care about the fake tips and some want. People are already ordering, so it's clear that some like the design.

I can't beleive then went with the two non active exhausts again to DINAN, I'm glad I pulled the trigger on the VRS b/c I was seriously considering DINAN if they came out w/ the "right" system...I would still love to hear it...

I spoke to my dealer today and I am having the system installed on my car before I take delivery. If the Dinan software is ready before my car arrives then I will be having the car flashed as well. I spoke to Dinan today and they say that the software is about 1 month away from market, but, 2 months ago they told me it was 1 month away. I am going to cross my fingers that it will be ready before I take delivery.
I am mainly doing the exhaust for sound not performance gain and the software is going to get rid of the limiter at the very least. If the parts make power then that is a plus for me. I realize that other companies products may make more power but I am not willing to sacrifice my warranty on my $88K CAD car for a few extra HP. IMO the M3 has enough HP already. |

Pics, sound clips, qualitative report ASAP, PLEASE. I may delay a purchase based on this.
Gotta say...it's a pretty crap piece of web-marketing (bad pics, no sound clips, limited info). |

In actuallity the Software was what I was referring to when I was talking about the warranty thing, however some uneducated techs and service advisors can and do believe that an exhaust or air filter can contribute to an engine/transmission failure. I am a mechanic by trade so I know that this is not the case but sometimes dealing with some of those guys at the dealer is like

Jamie, I agree about the ECU. In fact, that's why I'm waiting on Dinan before trying anything with ECU. It's easy to see how an agressive ECU flash could damage the engine.

You can look at the non-functioning tips a couple different ways:
1. BMW is partially to blame for putting a quad exhaust on the car. From an engineering standpoint, it's unnecessary. There are two pipes coming from the front and there should be two pipes coming out the back. Hey, at least we're not driving IS-Fs. 2. Is it really that bad? I mean, we have non-functioning side vents as well. I've seen my car with the front quarter-panels removed. Only solid metal behind those, boys. So it's a question of aesthetics then. I think the ceramic black tips are cool. But you will look like a jackass ricer in cold weather. I'm tempted to have a high-quality custom exhaust made. The pricing on these mufflers across the board is generally outrageous. And Dinan's design is not ground-breaking. You're paying for brand-name fit and finish backed by proven flow-testing... and technology that has been around longer than most of us have been alive. I agree that Steve's marketing is a bit weak. He says nothing on how the muffler affects power curves or even what type of exhaust note they intended to achieve.
