The X5M is my daily driver, as was my M3, and for my commute and driving style I am not missing much from the M3. I especially like the higher driving position and additional low end torque. I do miss the exhaust note and steering tightness of the M3 but the X5 with EDC handles very well and is plenty quick. The first BMW I ever drove was an E53 X5 so I always wanted to be back in a X5. The X5M is a hell of a SUV (or SAV as BMW calls it) so I have no regrets about the change. Living in the Northeast I am also relieved to have a AWD vehicle that I feel is more stable in the snow. I will always love the M3 and hope to have another one again. Hopefully I can find a low mile E90 in the future but for now I am enjoying my X5. Let me know if you have any particular questions though.

Grand Cherokee? Which one? FYI, saw an X5M in MCB with around 40k miles (2010 or 2011) going for 60k. Can't wait till these are more "affordable", they are well on their way.

M5 and M6 have higher compression and higher boost already. Because they already come maxed out, you won't get much from a tune. The X5M has lower compression to start with so possible can get more boost no?
I have one and thinking of doing a software upgrade, but what's another 75 hp when you already have 555 and the thing weighs 5500 pounds? .1 second to 60? .3 at the 1/4? Not worth destroying the warrantee over. |

Had an X5M for about year. Didn't like the sound of the turbo nor the lag (yes there is lag). The novelty of 550hp wears off after a while. the sound is always there. Get a Cayenne GTS. Same money and the V8 performance and sound are more appealing than X5m. Plus new X5's are going to be here in fall.

I owned Cayenne turbos and currently have the 13 GTS, let me tell you something
The E92 feels like a pure track car when you hop from a truck, but the truck with a nice engine like the 4.5 V8 i have in my GTS, gives you that tank feel. it's a good feeling, plus it's quick enough. X5M will be fun, trust me. Get the Pannno roof it's deff worth it. |

And that's an oxymoron and precisely why the X5M is useless and should not have existed at all. SUVs are not for "good handling". They are for towing and for off road use, none of which the x5M is capable of. If someone wants a vehicle for the road that handles well while having lots of storage space and practicality, why not get a station wagon? What's wrong with a 3 series or 5 series wagon? Heck, bmw should have made an M3 and M5 wagon. Makes more sense than X5M or X6M. SUVs will always be heavy and have a high centre of gravity, so whether they carry an M badge or not the will never be as stable and well planted on the road as a car.
