Why would they? That would cannibalizes the sales of the MPSS. These will be sold along side them. The MPSS is still a good tire. The new one will just be that. New.

Indeed.

Though, I'm curious if PS4S > PSS from a performance standpoint.

Future ///M cars probably. The current line-up will most likely continue with the existing M-PSS.

Not so much, these tires are likely only a minimal improvement over PSS and they don't exactly want to showthat

If the test results are correct, then it looks like they score about the same in dry conditions, but offer a significant jump in wet weather and mileage compared to MPSS. So a much better allrounder. Having said that, I am dubious about the whitewash win over tyres that have moved the game on like the conti 6

Just in time for my PSS' needing replacement next summer.

I'll wait to make my decision once these are tested and compared against PSS.

Sounds like a very interesting new tyre. I hope they roll them out in more sizes though. Great to see the wet weather and longevity improvement.

I am concerned these might end up being some kind of a middle ground between PS2's and PSS's.
Definitely. Shouldve just named it PSS2 or something..

I recall having the PS2 on my e90. At some point the PS3 was released but was not the direct successor, but rather the PSS became that new tire to go after. If this new tire supplants the PSS then it's interesting that they abandoned the super sport naming so quickly to go back the pilot sport.

On a somewhat related note, the 4S just seems like a poor naming choice as it immediately conjures up the idea of a 4 season tire to me. Then again, what do I know, I'm just buying tires...

Crazy having two products with such similar names. Only the S differentiation. I'm sure a lot of ordering mistakes are going to happen.

Pretty simple answer regarding the reason that BMW is slapping Contis on M cars if the PSS is going out of production.. even still.. tires on Sports cars/ sports sedans are sooooo temporary. if they make it 20K miles that's great... which is only 1/10 of the useable life of the vehicle..

Are BMWs getting the Conti 6? doesn't look like it's performance is far off the MP SS in the TUV testing.. A mere .4 seconds behind in lap time, less than 1.5 m longer braking in the dry and wet performance and slightly less longevity.

I just bought some pilot cup 4 for my car mainly because they were in stock. They were $10/true more than PSS and I was told the cup was replacing the PSS? Seems that might not be true but the 4s are very sticky and slightly better wear.

This is in Australia.

IIRC the Michelin Pilot Supersport came out in 2010-2011 and replaced the Michelin pilot Sport 2 ( aka PS2). With PSS supplanting the PS2 there was a tough transition from the similar naming and I imagine the name PSS2 would probably *really* be confusing. Either way.. the Supersport name was around more than a half decade.. so I wouldn't say this is a QUICK decision ..

potentially good point about PS4... reminds me of a certain video gaming device.. perhaps it won't be around long and a 5 is coming. Yikes.. PS5 might be confusing with PSS...

True.

Still, the tread pattern for the two do look very similar. No doubt there are differences in the compound and perhaps in the construction. Though, it's tough to get specific detail because I can't find any information from Michelin that compares the two. However, it's clear the PS4 is available in smaller sizes than what the PS4S will be offered in initially.

Similar confusion arose in the past when the PS3 arrived as a non-successor to the PS2. Still don't understand why Michelin makes it so hard.

Uh probably? But these are obviously a summer tire. You won't want them on the car below 40F degrees.

Fml, I literally just bought a new set of MPSS for my new HRE's and threw them on today. I was really happy until I read this. Bad luck Brian over here...
