An excellent write up.
Now I think I can do this myself with the help you've posted on here. Your step by step is the most detailed write up I've seen here. We all appreciate the time you've spent on this. Thanks |

Excellent install....you need to charge more than $90 to do it for another person. BMW charges $100+/hr and that job takes 2-3 hrs.
Very impressive...thanks for sharing. |

Please read DIY ... You need to remove only coil spring cartridge and not the whole assembly ... If you remove the whole thing, you would have to recalibrate your steering wheel angle sensor ... My dealer told me it is about 3h or so ...

Hey Doba,
I just completed the install and it doesn't appear to be working. Quick question - does the "Performance BMW" lettering on the LCD show up when you have the ignition in on position or only when you actually start the car and the engine is running? The car is not throwing any error codes. Just nothing lights up and "L" and "R" does nothing. Thanks. |

Where did you end up tapping in for power? Cig lighter per Doba's instructions? |

I am glad it works ! ... Like I said, take your time and make sure all the connections are solid and nothing was damaged. If you have errors, it means you didn't connect wires right ... If you have nothing at all, it means you have no Power ...

Excellent write up, definately not as easy as I imagined it but I pretty sure I can do it now. Thanks, Doba!

You have to be very careful removing the connectors as they are easy to break if they are forced off and not removed carefully. I managed to break one and this resulted in a wire disconnecting and multiple errors showing up. Once the wire was found to be disconnected , I fixed the faulty wire and broken connector and everything worked perfectly.
If you know how to take everything apart, this can be done in an hour. I was afraid of removing the steering angle sensor, but this ended up to be the easiest as the steps outlined what exactly had to be done. Again a good write up- just some clumsiness on my part during the installation which did not result in any harm other than the wife going ballistic that I was messing up the car..lol. |
