http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=731276 Here's a guy who made 50whp from TP's, tune, and intake. Assuming the tune and intake added 10hp each, that leaves 30whp from the test pipes. There are hundreds of dynos on m3post that show test pipes adding 25-30whp just by themselves. |

Resonators & X-pipes smooth out exhaust flow. They give a higher quality sound, in my opinion. If you lose those, you can count on a rougher and less refined sound. Some people like that though.

I went with the MS xpipe/test pipe combo along with Megan exhaust, car sounds epic and still retains a very smooth sound, the pitch went up with the xpipe which I love. |

Here are a few other dynos from EAS and Macht Schnell that are in the 15-20whp range. I don't mean to solely pinpoint EAS and Macht Schnell products, it's just the easiest to find their graphs on the forum. I do agree though that there is quite the wide range of data out there from the benefits of a primary cat delete!

It is federal law, not state law, that is the biggest worry:
http://www.epa.gov/otaq/cert/factshts/catcvrts.pdf Individual states may also have laws that impose fines. Assuming test pipes and catless x-pipes are sold for off-road purposes only, it is possible the seller may avoid liability. It might be advisable to have a waiver on file. Same goes for tunes that defeat the OBD2 emissions protection controls. This is probably true for both sellers and installers. Anyone here with test pipes or catless x-pipes or emissions control defeating tunes is presumably using them only for track purposes. Most intelligent people would not write about their wrongdoing on the internet. |

I was at least answering a question and providing some helpful hints, although my response was not well received by some. Your unsolicited addition of another illegal automotive related activity probably won't be well received either.

I have Dinan with test pipes and it sounds great. X-pipe sounds even better (I'll go on record that a full Dinan exhaust is the best sounding option for this car, period), but you don't gain much in the way of power over the test pipes (5-10HP max on most dinos I've seen), it stinks really bad, and it will throw shit all over your rear bumper.

its without a doubt federal crime to remove cats or even changing the location is a crime. (high flow cats )(even when it passes a emission testing ) the problem cops really don't enforce it. because there are wayyyy more people who drive stock cars and dont mess with cats. its not a big problem if a small percentage of people run catless
with that said i wouldn't worry about running catless. i would go X pipe over test pipes. just to not have to hack up the OEM. but doing test pipes is much cheaper. |

I have Fabspeed X pipes and macht schnell test pipes and love them. My car passes NY inspection so I don't have to worry about any legal issues.
