It's obvious the C&D editors didn't pick the car with the best objective numbers, they picked the car that was the best all around car and that was the most fun to drive and had the best driver/car interface.
I'd say most drivers can't duplicate the numbers posted in magazines anyhow. So which car gives you the most confidence to go fast. I don't know about the others, but I can go fast very easily in the M3.

Some more realistic GT-R performance numbers compared to some we have seen in the past. This car is definitely in the range of the Nissan quoted power and weight figures. So much for some of the "magic" numbers we have seen much of in the past and that that GT-R fanboys love to quote.

Well said. To add to that, what auto mag isn't a BMW fan? Hell, Motor Trend, etc. are all pro-BMW.......and for good reason. Raw performance data isn't everything. Quote:

That is a great point, couldn't be more right on. I have looked into 1 - 2 year old Vantages as an alternative to getting the M3. There is just something about that car despite the M3 being better in every statistical, performance, or practical measure. Someday I will own one (or another Aston) as my second car!!

I am 100% willing to admit that C&D may be biased but basing a cars prowess simply on performance numbers is also not the best way to do business. As I said before, Aston Martins and Jags would be screwed if performance is the only measuring stick.

Reminds me of the comparision of the GTR, Porche Turbo, R8 and M3 is CAR. Objective data had M3 last, but final rankings came in second. Why? The most fun to drive. And isn't that why we are buying this car?

I'm cracking up going back and forth between E90Post and M3post on this one. The E90posters are mostly bitching and complaining about what an absurd test it was.

AND it won by a whopping 14 ponts. but I AGREE with CandD . I could afford the other two also but I am buy in M3. but thank goodness this wont happen:
"Every other manufacturer should give up on building their own cars and just make M3s instead!" LOL!!!!

It sucks for all the 335i guys (some of whom think they drive the best car on the planet) to be reminded of the prowess of the M3 and to play such a distant second. I wonder how a modded 335i would have done in the same comparo . That being said the overall rankings results are nearly unbelievable.

The article is bang on. I just wish they waited for the DCT. Maybe the numbers would have improved a bit. It is also interesting that they score the M3 manual higher than the GTR double clutch box.
