I use a CR Spotless as well. Love it!
I too bought mine on Craigslist 2 years ago and thought I got a great deal as seller stated it was only used once and was 6 months old. Purchased it and soon found it was missing internal parts, resin was bad and by the time I finished replacing what was needed and getting new resin I saved about $50.00 not to mention my wasted time over purchasing new. Unless you are sure the unit is complete I say to buy from Costco online.

I prefer high quality name brand 100% Cotton Towels to dry the car. Chamois or the Absorber and especially the Water Blade are flat and could trap a piece of dirt and scratch the paint finish. Towels have nap and are much safer and forgiving. Even if it were to pickup a piece of dirt, the nap would cushion it.

I use Griot's waffle microfiber towels. Work great and are very large.

So I got the water guzzler a Morano wool glove and a couple other things. I have to say I'm not sold on the glove or the guzzler. I feel the glove cleans well but is more work than a microfiber sponge the guzzler holds a lot of water but is a little to thick for my taste.

Just use a high quality microfiber. I personally prime the mircrofiber towel with a pad conditioner for added lubricity. Not a lot, just enough to help further reduce the chance of scratches.

You add pad conditioner to a towel when drying a wet car? First time I've heard of that. Sounds like that wouldn't be very efficient at drying at all.

I don't add pad conditioner but do spray with a quick detailer while the car is still wet before I dry it.

Same thing I use to prime pads prior to polishing. I have always figured that since it adds enough lubrication to prevent a pad from marring the paint on my high speeds, then it should suffice on the car as well. It has always worked very well for me to be honest.

I bought some of the plush blue microfiber towels from Griot's and they shed strands of microfiber, especially on glass. Did not run them through the dryer. The generic short-hair microfiber towels seem to shed also, though not as noticeably. Went back to using thick cotton terry towels most of the time-- and a lone waffle microfiber towel that seems to be the only one of my non-cotton towels that doesn't shed a lot of fiber.
So are all the non-waffle microfiber towels junk? |

http://www.detailersdomain.com/Uber-...wel_p_516.html Works well to dry about 1/2 the car unless you use a blower prior to use, so order two if you don't blow. |

Wow - does no one use the Zaino method any more? I sure do. I've sworn by Zaino products (and methods) for over 15 years.
For drying - 100% cotton high quality towels, nothing else... edgeless, made in the USA, tags ripped off, washed only with other "car" towels, towels. I also use the same towel (only smaller) for washing. What the guy above said about pile is 100% correct. Also, driving your car to dry it is fine as long as you don't go back afterwards and dry with a towel or worse a fabric without pile. If you're doing that, you're doing the absolute worst thing you can do short of not washing it first. Driving on the road, even if for a super small distance picks up all kinds of grime - roads are disgusting... if you drive down the road then towel off, you're basically just rubbing particles into your paint and causing all kinds of micro-scratches. I'm surprised to not hear more of the Zaino methods in this thread... For those that haven't heard of it, google Zaino Brothers and check out their products and methods for application on their site. It's pricey and at first requires a significant amount of time investment. But after the initial strip, claybar, prep, wax, polish, seal steps, it's quicker to re-wash, wax, seal. Or just wash. I'm also a huge fan of their tire care product - which is usable on the interior plastic pieces - it's non-greasy, and holds up way longer than traditional products. And their leather care is awesome as well. I know of two high end detail shops in the area that use Zaino exclusively. Worth checking out if you haven't already and you are a detail-nut! |

I use the Cobra Guzzler and some very high quality towels from autogeek for the cleanup. I have a jerez black car which is not quite as bad as jet for showing issues. Even with the highest quality towels and being as careful as possible I still end up with micro scratches over time.

Then, throughout the year, I'll use Z2 for the most part since I don't have any swirl marks, but I'd be alternating Z2 and Z5 if I did. I use the spray sealer after every wash as well. I find that this method makes it actually *less* work to keep the car clean - I can wash / wax / buff / spray seal in less than an hour if the car is already coated with it and the humidity is low enough for it to dry quickly. Use very sparingly for best results. I love the Zaino products and methods - been using it exclusively for 15+ years and experimenting with other products on my other cars. There are a couple other products I'd like to try but they are only available to detailers (making it hard to get and keep getting) and ridiculously expensive (can't remember the name of it though). |
