Plan on doing it at 37k miles. Got a good deal for the plugs and a set of no-drill pedals on eBay for $95 after a $20 coupon.

You should have stuck with the old wheels, I think they would match the interior a little better and complete the package.....

I still have them lol.

But I absolutely love the 513M 18s. No spacers, fat tires, and flush! Not to mention the loss of 32lbs of unsprung mass. The car drives incredibly better in every way.

Today, I blocked out my work calendar with a meeting called "Family Matter" so coworkers would theoretically not bother me for an hour on a Friday. In this case, the family matter was getting a little remote tuning done. If I called the meeting "Playing with my M3" it's just going to welcome people questioning my priorities. I don't need such insolence.

So, I kept hearing about this GTS DCT tune that I must have, especially if driving in traffic. Hmm, okay, let's see what this is all about. Apparently a GTS tune varies by provider. They are mutated versions of whatever the M3 GTS is running for the DCT. Great, I like the GTS but I'm just a pleb with an M3, what am I actually getting? Does my car need to be orange?

There seems to be four main reasons to do this.

1. Faster shifting into reverse
2. Faster shifts in general
3. Smoother at slow speeds
4. Defaults to going to D rather than S on first push to the right

Great, all of those things sound good. So I start asking around for where to acquire this GTS-worthy software change. The name Alex kept coming up. I PM him on here and next thing I know, I have a package at my home with a cable, usb thumb drive and instructions to send exactly what I want flashed/coded and availability.

Lots of what is available can be done with iCarly but there are a few significant exceptions. In the end, here's what I selected:

• GTS DCT
• Euro MDM
• Disable iDrive legal warning

So once it was time to take care of my family matter, I fired up the VM, connected to Alpine Motorsports VPN, started up the car with the cable connected and sent a text message to Alex (or someone at alpine.) Once he got started, he mentioned to ignore any warning messages. No problem, why would I be concerned with warning messages as someone is remoting into my car and flashing software? It's not like the internet could just go out in the middle and brick something, right?

He wasn't kidding, it threw all sorts of fun errors which I've documented below. Who knows, maybe reading them is of interest to you guys. I especially like the transmission malfunction.

Once he was done, which took under 30 minutes, he said to unplug it, shut it off, get out, close the door(s) and lock it. Then walk away for 3 minutes. Hmm, very specific. What happens if I go back into it in 2 minutes? I resisted the urge.

So, do I notice a difference? Yes. Was it worth the price and my time? I'll let you know next time I am sitting in traffic. Here's what I can report after a quick, spirited drive on a backroad near me:

1. It definitely shifts into reverse faster, it's basically instant
2. Maybe it shifts faster, maybe it's my brain, let's say it shifts faster..
3. There is noticeable smoothing out of shifts when going slow and doing start and stops. This may prove extra wonderful during my commute on Monday.

I give this upgrade my stamp of approval*. It is not expensive, you'll notice something right away and appears to not have any downsides. There's some talk about clutch sizes but meh, I'm not tracking it or anything (yet.) Kudos to Alex at Alpine Motorsports. They also have an engine tune for around $600... Perhaps my family will continue to have matters in the future.

In the name of #wheelWednesday I build up the courage to do the job that I?ve been meaning to do for awhile. As you know dealing with wheel removal/installation on our cars, without a lift, is a PETA of a job. On top of that we have to deal with the bolts, instead of studs with lug nuts.

I had purchased from @iND-distribution the Macht Schnell studs. I also purchased Muteki race lugs and locks.

While I was on the job, I also detailed the wheels, inside n out. Used Sonax wheel cleaner and after washing them, I used Mother?s Mag n Aluminum polish. The results are fantastic. I?m very pleased with the whole job. Started at 10:30 finished at 17:30, well worth the timen effort. Here some pics.

Bought some grille decals off ebay. Very cheap and look good imo. If anyone orders these look for 3mm wide decals. The ones I ordered were supposed to fit my E90 but at 5mm wide were 2mm too wide, overhang the edges and look wrinkly I reordered 3mm which should look better.
