Any latest updates on this? Still on track for release? Has the test set been performing well?

Yeah really looking forward to buying a few sets of V10 and V8 bearings.

Technical Differences between these Bearings and the 702/703 Bearings

May I enquire what are the advantages of these custom bearings over buying and using the stock BMW 702/703 bearings if one did a bearing replacement?

Technical data welcome, remembering I'm a software "engineer" (which I've never felt is quite a real one) so please be gentle . I'm sure if I trawl through ,000s of threads I might find the answer, but if anyone has the facts in ready form to cut-and-paste here I should be very grateful.

Thanking people in advance.

tl;dr

Many feel the clearances are too tight for this engine and want to design a bearing set more appropriate for it, the oil weight chosen, etc.

Read. Then read some more.

Just spoke to Kawasaki 00 and Regular guy about the bearings. Kawasaki is going out of town and Regular guy is still unable to post although his ban is supposed to be lifted, so they asked me to update you all. The bearings will be going into production in 4 days. I am not sure how long production and QA will take but they should be available shortly! Please stay tuned for more updates.

To expand on what thekurgan said, there are a few engine builders here who all independently have come to the conclusion that the bearings clearances are tighter than they typically are in an engine. Add to that, the thick oil specified by BMW and this combination may contribute to the many engine failures we have seen here. There is no CONCLUSIVE proof the tight bearing clearance with thick oil is the problem, and the intermittent nature of the engine failures complicates the issue. Many people have decided to run thinner oil such as Mobil 1 0W40 (or mix in some Mobil 1 15W50) to possibly help with the tight clearances.
If you look back at the MANY threads of people showing their rod bearings that they changed out on their own as preventative maintenance, almost all have some degree of abnormal wear, but there's also a few with normal wear.

These new rod bearings will provide extra clearance to the crank and be coated. They will also be made of with a lead layer, so hopefully, an oil analysis will give owners some indication of abnormal bearing wear. The 2010 and on S65's seem to have newer bearings without lead in them.

Hope this helps as a quick recap of what's been talked about for the past 2-3 years now. If you really want more info, there's a bearing wiki thread here too.

Is it safe to assume we're in production now?

Should be safe to assume, but I don't have confirmation yet from Kawasaki/RG. Last time I spoke to RG he had sent an email to Clevite to check on the status. Either myself, or Kawasaki will update once we have confirmation that production has started.

I wish RG could just post here if his ban is over.

I with RG could just post here if his ban is over.
.
His ban was supposed to be for 30 days and he can login fine but he can't post.

Perhaps only loosely relevant...

Some time ago, not in any way related to the bearing topic, I earned a short ban here on the forum. My ban was both for posting and pm-ing. Perhaps on purpose, or perhaps by accident, my pm-ing ban remained in effect long after the posting ban was lifted. When I finally really wanted to send a pm I had to post in some odd "forum comments" or some such section and specifically request investigation/resolution from a mod (since I could not pm any of them either).
