Happy New Year everyone! The new year came and went with little fanfare here. I was playing Kinect Sports on Xbox Live with my brother/sister-in law. Addicting, for sure.

Happy New Year fellow IL drivers!!!
I pretty much found this out last night during NYE party, I was absolutely shocked, I mean common a year in jail, wtf!!! Are other states that rigorous as well?
Why have a fast car? A new law that swept through the General Assembly earlier this year will prohibit judges from issuing court supervision to drivers caught speeding 40 mph or more above the speed limit. Instead, these offenders could face up to a year in jail or probation under the legislation. The law, which will take effect Saturday, also creates a new category of excessive speeding, ranging from 30 to 39 mph above the speed limit. Instead of receiving a standard moving violation, drivers caught speeding by that much could now be slapped with up to $1,500 in penalties and six months in jail. ref:http://www.galesburg.com/news/x16514...tiff-penalties

Here's an idea... don't drive 40mph over the speed limit.
Don't get me wrong, I speed... 10-15 over, but 40? I'm fine with that offender spending some time in prison. Besides one of two outcomes will happen should you get caught. 1. If it's your first 30mph+ offense you won't go to jail (depending on your previous record of course). If it isn't... then you deserve to spend some time in prison. 2. You actually do get a prison sentence, but you can post bail until you actually have to go to prison.... Then once you report, you spend less than a month there because of overcrowding. |

Another excuse to fill up our bloated jail system... We need to be coming up with ways to keep people OUT of jail. Not finding new ways to put people in. I am somewhat conservative, but this is just too much. Take the persons car or their license for a year or two. But a jail sentence is ridiculous.
