Shot in the dark at this point, but the service advisor at the BMW dealership stated I may have a good chance because of the service history records and the lower mileage of the car...

BMW tried to sweep the N54 problems under the rug until ABC aired both a Nightline and Good Morning America segment. Yes there was a lawsuit but that wasn't the catalyst. The problem with class action lawsuits is that only the lawyers win and very few in the class actually get made whole. Look at the Porsche IMS failure lawsuit. Porsche got to settle on high favorable terms and most of the car owners got screwed. The lesson is someone call ABC not a lawyer! |

I had the high pressure fuel pump fail (correction - sensor) in my car last year, fwiw. Sounds like it's much less of an issue in our cars...

Yup. A case could also be made (if proper warm up does help the longevity of the engine) that the already-present rev limiting function is flawed and the oil really isn't warm enough to get to the max rpm, with the mandated oil weight.

The fix is not in Germany with BMW ! They don't have a fix , they never had ! Not in the past (the last 12 years) , not today... and not tomorrow ! Because when you have BF with a S65 built end of 2013 , so the last builts of the S65 ,that's proof that the problem was still there after 7 years of production ! Than it's very clear that they never had a fix ... TV is ok to explain what is going on Worldwide with the S65 , I'm agreed with that . But the big problem is that BMW has no fix , so where can we get a fix ? Nowhere is the answer.. The only thing that BMW can do is to give us , S65 owners extented warranty.. but only in case of BF even owners out of warranty . In other simple words... In case of BF....and even out of warranty BMW needs to replace it , that's the only thing we can ask and put that on a paper . And personal I think we will never get it , because the S65 is history for BMW . And BMW can say ...We replaced all S65's under warranty and a lot, and that is actualy true , so we are in advance... nowhere .

You could at least direct all your angst against BMW to them and not on a forum. That would be a good start. |

The failure rate is currently estimated somewhere around 1 to 1.5%.
1.5% equates to ~990 cars worldwide, a number that fits in with the numbers you were told and what is indicated here on m3post. Its not a high rate by any means and its certainly not an epidemic...cars fail and that is life, getting all worked up in every thread that mentions the word bearing is achieving nothing. |

Hope the failure rate levels off at these same numbers over time, as more of our cars racks up miles well into the six figures. |

1. A function of the number of failures reported on m3post, the estimated number of CAN/USA E9x M3 owners on M3post and the E9x M3 production numbers for CAN/USA.
Compared with: 2. A report of the worldwide numbers of S65 engines replaced over a 3 month period. |

The seals were $30 but the labor was $1000! Not to mention that it wasn't an ideal garage-repair friendly car- as you had to drop the engine to perform just about any type of repair... I paid $1200 just to have new spark plugs put it in! I actually traded my 911 for an E46 M3 years ago because I could actually work on it in the garage if I needed to do a repair... Unless it's the dreaded bearing failure of course... and here we are! |
