you're going to have fun! willow springs is a blast. keep an eye on your tires if you're not going there with a new set. turns 1, 2, and 8 will scrub your tires down pretty good. if you're in a low-advance group you should be fine.
the closest i came to going off at big willow was coming up on a mustang at turn 8 when he started to brake (for no real reason). started to lift and realized it was a bad idea.

see if you can follow elim or red, they know whats up. wish i could go, but i'll be in vegas.

Red group for me. Honestly I will probably sandbag this event in terms of absolute lap time unless a competitor forces me to push harder.

i wish i could be there to make you work for it. my pb is 1:34.362, but that was before the carbon driveshaft and front aero, and the back seats in.

Two seconds faster than me - mine is 1:36.85, but I was using Sport+ on EDC, which in retrospect was probably a terrible idea.

This will be interesting as I will be coming to this with slicks + JRZ RS Pro + large amounts of interior strip out. I'm thinking 1:32 "easily" and maybe < 1:30 if I decide to push it.

do you think lightening up your car is going to require a change in spring rates? i think you could go flat out through 8. i want to see a solid 100% throttle from turn 5 to the braking zone for 9. ok?

In honesty, though, that is an interesting question that I don't have a good answer to - I think I'm going to have to play around with suspension settings until I get it dialed in just right. I didn't intend to leap to using slicks so early, so I picked spring rates that would feel better with less sticky tires.

you haven't been back to big willow since the coils, right? i'm curious how well things are going to go for you on the turn 8 washboard. i always feel like the car is going to bunny hop to the left because of the bumps.

can you pressurize the jrz's to add "false" spring rate and go with softer springs?

VHT and such can bring a tire back to life but you're not going to get full sessions out of it unless you soak it for a loooong time

so what happens when you put it on a brand new 100 treadwear tire like a nt01? could you get a fast session out of it and then it behaves like a normal tire? i have zero experience with the stuff.

I don't know if I have enough life in the NT01 that I have. I think I will bring my other set of race wheels with a fresh set of NT01 just to be safe. Don't want to carry 2 full sets of NT01s.

I would be interested if redpriest took my car for a couple laps and give his opinion on set up etc. Clearly hes doing something right. haha. I feel the car is way too loose in the rear.

Are you still on stock suspension? Nothing I did pre-coilovers did anything to stop the car's tail happiness. If you went anywhere near the throttle mid corner prepare to countersteer.

The only time a shock is regulated by psi in any suspension case is if there a full air shock. It's quite common in the motocross industry where Honda used a system for a while until this year called SSF. One shock was nothing but air while the other was fluid. The air pressure would act as the spring rate and it made it very hard to dial in and in most cases was very soft. In a shock that is mechanical your valving and spring rate is key the component along with proper rebound and compressor set. The canisters in JRZ are nitrogen so if you add air to them you'll explode your entire system from over pressure on internals or mess up your valving and shims. All the air (nitrogen) pressure does is keep pressure on the oil to keep it from cavitating at high shock piston speeds. Now I know the mx industry and car industry are totally different. But the mechanical principles are still the same

On a car with relatively soft spring rates, you can use the N2 pressure to act as an "extra" spring, it is known. Hell adding 100psig to my canisters on my M3 (normally ran it at ~100, but jacked it up for competition on Hoosiers) with stock springs with the autocross setup was worth almost a whole centimeter of additional ride height from the increased rate, which works out to a pretty good bump in "effective rate". Downside is you add stiction to the system and reduce sensitivity to small wheel movements and can wear seals faster. In other words, the opposite effect you'd want for dealing with washboards

On a car that already has pretty stiff springs, you're not going to make a big difference with the N2 pressure and it's better to set it in the 150-200psi range and get your tuning done in other ways IMO. If the car is having trouble over washboards it's probably a valving issue or you've turned your knobs the wrong way

First time at WSIR today and it was a lot of fun. PB at a 1:36.1. Kept DSC on for this event as I didn't want to die. If I were to do this track a few more times, I'd be happy turning it off here. Anyways lots of fun today.

This was also the last public tack in Cali that I had to drive. With the exception of thermal, all tracks complete.
