I've been trying to figure out if the flywheel in my car is the E90 one or if this one came from the E92 during the motor swap. I believe it's the one from the E92. Now I'm hesitant to put the E90 flywheel into the E92 as we put it back together. Ah so much fun.

Anyway, hopefully I can get to Buttonwillow tonight and be out on track in the competition tomorrow. I'll use Saturday as my practice build up day and then go for a good lap on Sun AM. We'll see.
A good lap or a hot lap 😅?

A good hot lap!!

Let me tell ya, I was rusty on Thursday when I hit the track. I’ve been on track regularly in 2021, but I haven’t been to Buttonwillow in a whole year. This is a very challenging track to go fast at. There are lots of little things to trip you up here.

On Thursday, my tech troubles didn’t appear until the fourth time on track. I was just starting to get the feel back. Mid-lap, I was in 1:49 territory on tires that were starting to cord on the front. Gives me hope that with good tires, something decent is possible. It is unfortunate that I couldn’t practice all day Thursday or any of Friday as I had scheduled it…..ah well….chalk it up to the twists and turns of Motorsport (see what I did there??…..). I’m just glad that EAS got me back up here with the car looking like it’s sorted out.

Anyway, lots of unknowns. Will keep it interesting. All I know for sure is that the weather will be good and I’m eager to drive. After that, I’m just hoping I can put down some hot laps——good hot laps!!!

Not sure what the next step is. I dropped the car back at EAS yesterday. Maybe it’s mechatronic replacement. I don’t know. Whatever is going on is super frustrating. All of 2021 has been riddled with problems.

If I had to guess I think it’s something electronic. I tried driving two sessions. On the second session, the problem appeared and then it disappeared for half a lap and the it appeared again. That just does not feel like a hardware/mechanical thing.

After the first session, I started to wonder if the AIM could be the culprit like at COTA. So the 2nd session, the AiM was disconnected. But it still happened. Was SO hoping that was the problem…..

In the first session, when it happened, I kept driving the car so I would at least log a lap time in the competition. I still was able to run a 1:51 with only 3 gears available—-gears 2,4 and 6…..oh, and when I returned to the paddock after session two, it would not go in reverse—it would simply stay in Neutral…….I mean….what the heck…..

I have video from Friday with the car pulling like a freight train on the dyno with no issues. You look at that video and there’s no hardware issues during those pulls……did I mention frustrating?

I was hoping to return to CA in December for some kind of track day, but did not have any specific plans. For now, I’m gonna wait and see what EAS can dig up.

Sorry to hear that dogbone. Been a tough year for the e90. And to think now you're indebted to TJ for nothing? That's trouble…

We'll take you back in Colorado! I hear your second engine is ready for reassembly.

Gabe, here is a thought.
perhaps this is a sensor issue.
if that the case, I had similar behavior when my speed sensor was not registering/detecting the correct signal.

This was due to a front left wheel bearing going bad. The car registered a bad speed sensor.

We are both on F80 hubs, and I was not expecting it to go bad after 2 years.

When it was going bad, I was not able to detect it on the car. it is only when I got it off and went back and forth off the car, the bad bearing was obvious.

Bottom line, it is inexpensive to remove the front hub and test it, and the speed sensor is also inexpensive.

The DCT logic is definitely taking input from the speed sensors and the speed sensors are only working when the bearing don't let the distance from the hub to the sensor vary.

anyway, food for thoughts

Sounds like time for a manual swap. No more BS DCT related issues that way

On a serious note - that sucks! Hoping you can get it sorted out asap and get back out there.

Thanks everyone. Appreciate the input.

Now, EAS has more time to look into it. On Thursday, we assessed the situation and made a reasonable diagnosis based on what we knew. And then we had to implement it immediately. There was no time to sit and ponder the meaning of life. I’m satisfied that we took a solid shot at the problem. But it’s looking to be sneaky….so it will take more investigation.

We've been looking into the shifting problems, but no smoking guns have appeared. So, after a number of conversations with people, I have decided to buy a used transmission. Once we are able to take a look at it, we'll decide if we're just pulling the mechatronics unit, or if we'll swap the whole trans.

The transmission should be delivered to EAS today. I'm guessing they'll be able to take a look at it next week. And then I have to figure out when I can get back to CA to go out and test it.

Anyway, just wanted to wish everyone Happy Thanksgiving! This year I am thankful that, as of just a couple weeks ago, my parents now live in CO and will be joining us at Thanksgiving as CO residents. Very happy about that. Guess how I'm gonna cook the turkey this year----Fire up the smoker!!!!! Brining the bird as we speak!

Have a great Thanksgiving as well! Glad your parents are finally close to you in CO.

I'm thankful for so many things this year, but related to you I'm thankful you were finally able to come out here and put down some serious times together!

The trip to WGI and VIR with you guys was my track highlight of the whole year! Once we got past that crazy rain, learning those tracks was awesome. And the car ran without issue that whole trip. Phew!

Maybe roastbeef would be interested in a transmission trade. If gears 2, 4, and 6 work on yours, he can take out the other 4 for weight savings.

haha no doubt. I did a 1:51 with 3 gears! And I'm sure you could go faster. I was just trying to get a full lap in the competition and I was on scrubs.
