Sockets one is definitely a double up, he sold his car years ago so I am sure He didnt blow his engine again. There are other blown engines on here that have nothing to do with the RB's, so if the post is an RB failure registry then that should be all it is, if it is a blown engine registry then the RB shouldn't be in the heading. |

Actually I never mentioned anything about Sockets . And I have no idea about his situation . On the other hand , about *ellekz* situation I know everything . He had several PM's with me . His bearing failures were comfirmed by a BMW/Dealer in Germany . With his first bearing failure he was very lucky , because it happened while he drove at the German Autobahn with +/- 200km/u on it. This one in Germany was involved in a car accident with other cars . Cause ? What do you think it was ? => https://www.infranken.de/regional/ho...155656,1044343 Fact is that bearing failure can hurt people pretty bad with injuries ! Yeah , that's really *unhealthy* (like you said) And mate , if you don't know it (Let's use our brain) This thread , the list and our words may serve as evidence in court . For all of us....

not that i would consider moving to F80, but just curious... so is the F80 crank hub problem higher or lower than E9X RB problem in terms of probability?

I don't know much about it because I have little interest in the F8x platform in general. The owner of the shop that replaced my rod bearings brought it up and said it was a worse issue for the simple fact that there's nothing you can do to prevent it, like you can with RBs on the E9x.

Assuming you don’t power mod the f80/2, the impression I get is that it happens with a similar frequency to the s65 main bearing failures.

The point is it makes no sense. Rod bearing failure is engine failure. If you are going to put Rod bearings in the title, make the thread about rod bearing engine failures, otherwise its useless being there.

Correct me if I am wrong but I dont think we know of any instance where a rod bearing failure caused a car accident Not exactly the same thing as the GM ignition fiasco which resulted in deaths.

There are at least a few crashes caused by rod bearing failure that I remember being reported.

The accident in Germany (Deutsche A9 Autobahn) => May 7/2015 , the S65 locked up and threw a rod through the block , with 220 km/h on it => 137 mph. Several cars were involved in the accident ,some people were slightly injured but the owner/driver ended up in the hospital ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In 2012...It was in Romania or Bulgaria (not sure) The 24 year old driver drove with high speed through his village . Witnesses heard a very loud abnormal engine noise while the car suddenly lost control on a straight . The car flew off the road into a farms wall with a rod through the S65 block ! Today , 6 years later the owner is still paralysed and in his wheelchair ... Picture from the accident in Germany .

My point exactly. Data without context is useless. Which is currently what the list is. Until it has context regarding failure reason it means nothing. Engines fail all the time. If you want tp point out a specific cause then it needs to be addressed exclusive of other causes.

Sad story, but driving through a town @137 mph is incredibly reckless. Also, was he wearing his seat belt bc the passenger compartment isn’t that bad... |
