got the exhaust installed on my E92 M3 a couple of days ago. It sounds absolutely fantastic. In fact, it's slightly more aggressive/louder than the original AE version I had 10 years ago. But overall, it's a masterpiece and it growls throughout the rev range. Will be interesting to see how it changes once the exhaust breaks in a bit.

I had been searching for an AE exhaust ever since I bought back my E92 a year ago....I'm beyond thrilled.

Great to hear. What midsection did you pair it with? Oem? Aftermarket?

What’s the tone like? More bassy or high pitched. Drone is fairly non existent? Rasp? Love hearing others impressions!

I have an OEM x pipe.

Tone is balanced. Bassy at low revs but has a higher pitch when you wind it out. No rasp at all. A little drone is present at 50mph in 7th gear..but most importantly (for me) there is virtually no drone at interstate speeds at 70+ mph.

The RPi I replaced had far more drone and was louder at all speeds- to the point where I couldn't take my 18 month old for rides in the car. With the AE/Stromung, I have no concerns about tossing her in the back seat.

I had the stromung exhaust and it drones under around 2500 rpm but is really nice at highway speeds. Drone is subjective anyway so your mileage may vary. Louder than the 4-pipe mod but not obnoxious. Sounded incredible from the outside at high rpm actually, but too bad you don't get to hear that often. A really clean, refined higher-pitched sound with no rasp. I've got sound clips somewhere, I'll try to upload those at some point.

Damn, I still have not heard from Scott. He processed my payment in full well over a month ago. Tried calling him but the phone line disconnects.

Have you tried to email him? He’s usually good about getting back to emails .

Yeah, I've left a few emails to him since early Feb but never heard back either.

I’m on the list for the next batch and he has been pretty responsive although lately he has been inconsistent with email. If/when he follows up with me (should be any day), I’ll bring this up.

how much louder is this over stock? anyone have dB readings?
No one has posted what the difference between sport vs race is except race is a little bit louder
All the videos being posted are not specific, are those race or sport? Anyone know how much louder a race is over sport?

Thanks in advance

Thank you guys for your help. I was able to connect with Scott and arranged for a local pickup today. End up having a great chat with him as well.

My understanding is there is just one version now. It might be somewhere between the previous sport and race. All the newer sound clip videos posted are of this newer version. Only thing I can’t get a read on is how bad the drone is but people have commented on that (although everyone’s sensitivity to that is different).

It is a different design from my understanding. There was mention of digging up the old plans for the group buy so I think the muffler design is different leading to a different sound. Obviously it shares similar characteristics given stromung manufactures the exhaust(as they did back when AE existed) but is different. Now could they be exactly the same, sure I bet it’s possible. But regardless it sounds amazing so what difference does it really make. Would love to hear a side by side comparison of the AE and the stromung to know for sure.

I had the original AE and this PW version is definitely a bit louder than the original AE I had. Though I did read that they had a v2 of the original AE to make it a bit more aggressive sounding which leads me to believe that this remake is the probably the V2 version.

It's not loud like a pure racing exhaust but I would definitely not categorize it as a quiet exhaust. Either way it sounds fantastic!

The question was whether this exhaust is different from Stromung’s own version for the E9x m3. I was under the impression it was. Which is why the group buy was created since the AE was not manufactured anymore.

You were part of the original group buy and you haven't heard anything? Did you pay in full already? I would call Scott... That doesn't sound right.

Looks like a new batch is being made. Unfortunately the group is full though. Hoping he does another run later in the year. AE exhaust really does sound so nice.

Got ahold of Scott. They made mine on accident with E90 tips.. 🤨 and then ran out of material to make E92 tips. So I gotta wait for them to get the material then make it again. Would’ve been nice to know this in advance 😩
