BMW did not give specific reasons for my engine failure, but they told me today that they are replacing the "short block", using the original heads, under warranty, of course.
I understand this will take some time, I do have a "back up car" that's not as fun as the M3 but beats the loaner car. I passed on the loaner & hope to have my car back...by Father's Day! |

It took them 1 1/2 weeks just to get an answer, so it wouldn't surprise me if it takes at least another 3-4 before returning my car. Hoping sooner, though. |

This is mad scary. My E92 has 45k miles, NO warranty and been involved in 2 light front end accidents (Hit a deer and spun on black ice hitting a guard rail) This makes me feel like my car has a death sentence at about 55k miles. And I was thinking about SC'ing the SOB too with a ESS VR1..... that aint happening now.

true, if this is the third case we are aware about in America and Europe, then that is a low percentage...lets say there have been 100 blown motors. That is still less than 1%...have either of the guys on here been performing mid service oil changes versus the dealership 18,000 mile drain intervals? I feel for $200 or so every 8-9K miles is a piece of mind for a motor has advanced as ours. I feel every owner on here should do an out of pocket oil change every 9K regardless of free maintenance...

What I meant was, what do you base the 9k oil change on? What makes you associate oil change interval with a blown engine? What evidence do you have that BMW's oil change interval is inadequate?

Wow... that looks horrible..
Sorry that happened and best wishes getting it fixed. I change my oil every 7K just to be safe. 15K is too long IMO. But next change I am going to send the oil out to Blackstone labs and have them analyize it to see whats inside. Being that I have a 12/07 build, all of these bearing issues scare me... Luckily in 31,000 miles I've never thrown a check engine light or had any engine issues.. |

So after some time new engine and new clutch is on the way. In two weeks should be back in M again.
BMW dealer made 50% discount on new engine. So i guess is not the win in this situacion, but not the worst becouse the car was out of warranty. And this discount is solidarity between dealer and me. BMW in germany did nothing to this. They just said it's out of warranty and did'nt even properly explained what caused that engine failure. Engine from ebay with no garanties stands about the same price as new one with 50% off from dealer. The new clutch is like free of charge for me. I insisted coz don't want that chain effect Anyways can't wait to get back to M, and maybe '11 engine will be running smoother |

50% is better than nothing but I wonder how much that will cost. I bet it is still a hefty price tag.

In one of your vids, I saw the gas light on. Are you doing this on purpose to save weight? Fuel starvation can def. lead to catastrophic failure when the engine is pushing as hard as you did on the vids, especially if you do it all the time. Do yourself a favor and take down those vids before someone who works for BMW decides to submit it....
