Smokes at high RPM shiftting

We are always driving our beloved M3s and don't get much chance watching it running. Yesterday it happened that my girlfriend was following me and in a traffic light she was behind me and asked me to do 0-60 and happily I did only to hear her on the phone saying smoke. Apparently shifting from 1st to second at high RPM makes smoke (exhaust not black) explode out of the the 4 pipes. According to her, it was IMPRESSIVE. That I wanna see!!
And that makes me wonder, would that also happen with every rev-matching throttle blips??

Are you sure it was not tire smoke - the DCT will spin the tires from first to second at 8400 rpm shifts. You can feel it inside the car, the whole car shakes!

That was the first thing I asked her "are u sure it wasn't coming from the tires?" and when she sounded confident the smoke was coming out of the exhaust tails I then asked if it was black smoke or just regular exhaust smoke.

Watched a lot of m3 tests, assuming they go wot all the time, i don't remember seeing any smoke.

That being said, if the outside temps are low, then you'll see a lot of smoke, from pretty much any car at wot.

Do everyone a favor and ask a guy to check it out, plz. Wimmin's mind work differently, as well as their visual system...

I mean, it's quite possible it's from a backfire (think Ferrari shifting), the fuel is still on when the shift is happening (so too much fuel goes through the system and is exhausted where it catches fire due to the heat), the cats put it out and the smoke comes out the tail pipes

My friend driving behind my car also saw smoke coming from my exhaust at one point. Before anyone else asks, yes my friend is a guy and a car nut too.

It may not be smoke, but steam. Moisture in the exhaust system - evaporating.
