I would have seriously considered an M3 wagon if one was available. However since my M3 isn't my daily driver, I likely would have stuck with the sedan.
America's attitude toward wagons is pretty silly. These aren't the 70's land yacht station wagons anymore. Many people would be much better off with a wagon than an SUV, unless you just gotta have the "sitting above the world" feeling. Taking your kids to school, soccer, etc. doesn't really require a Suburban. Though I gotta be honest, I don't really consider an X5 to be an SUV (neither does BMW). |

Thank you serge for posting a rendering of how an e91 M3 would look like. Damn, it looks really good!
All I could say is that when compared to our European counterparts, a lot of Americans still has not grasp the fact that driving a wagon is just as good as driving an SUV with the exception of the wagon being faster and being able to outhandle a lot of the SUV's in most cases. If the Americans liked wagons in the first place, the Audi Avant SW RS4/RS6 wagon, the Mercedes Benz C63 wagon, the BMW 335i wagon, and the 1-series wagon, should have been imported in our shores in the first place. I just can't believe it because to this day, we still don't have those wagons here! We just love big, gas guzzling SUV's... |

I have my E92 for pleasure, but I need an SUV (a small one, not a massive one) for a couple of reasons.
I don't need or want it to have power or anything flashy. The more and more I look, the more I like the X3. It's not huge, but it's very nice. I also like the Mercedes ML350. They are smaller than your Ford Explorers and Chevy Tahoes. I need it because I move things around a lot being in the military. I have big boxes and I also have a big dog that lives with me. I love my dog, but he will never step foot in my M3 (he sheds and drools like a champ, haha). A lot of the big SUV's in the States are not needed at all. I really don't know why people buy them anymore. I can understand people who use trucks for their jobs, or if they tend to travel a lot, but I will never understand the woman who drives a Chevy Suburban with the extended back to go to the store and pick up groceries. Groceries fit just fine in the trunk of my little Mitsubishi Eclipse, which probably gets double the gas mileage that her Suburban does.

Closest we can actually hope for from BMW is an X1 M or X2 M. I imagine these would not be produced until the next generation X1 comes out - 6 years away. Probably AWD only however.

I currently have an A4 Avant in addition to my M3. I like the car, but my wife loves it. I told her I was going to sell it and she said absolutely not. I can get any other car I want, but it is not going anywhere.
The A4 works well for just about everything. We do have a large SUV as well since we have four kids, but we very rarely drive it. The only time we drive it is when all six of us are going out together. |

Since we're sharing and all.
My old Passat variant. I still miss her. No, it didn't always have the decals. They were on their for the sponsors for the PAS shoot. They came off before I even left for home. |
