I went 245/275. I like it.
Semi-off topic, just discovered Vredestein makes mountain bike tires. I'm going to make mine match

Now that the weather is on the warm side, I can definitely feel a difference on my Vred's. Much smoother now. I guess it's the type of tires that need to be warmed up good. My conclusion is: very good tires overall but I wouldn't use them up north

+1 on the 255 front. Do you experience any rubbing in the rear with 295/25/20? Also, what springs do you have? I rub a little on 295/25/20 PS2's dropped on Eibach springs, but I believe PS2's have beefier sidewalls than most so maybe the Vred's wouldn't rub. Definitely looking into a set as my next tires.

I need new tyres and I am about to pull the plug on the Vreds mostly based on what I have read on this forum.
Any further reviews / user feedback? Any regrets? |

Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas
Quote:
Pros: - Inexpensive - Very good performance, including rain - Stiff sidewalls = responsive - Great looking Cons: - Limited sizes - Limited dealers (in US) - Stiff sidewalls = hard ride (not as bad as runflats)

For those SoCal people who are in the SGV, I got my RACs mounted with Vreds 255 and 275 35 19 for a great deal: $710 out the door including mounting and balancing.
I'd give this place a try: Tire Central 5132 North Walnut Grove Avenue, San Gabriel, CA 91776 (626) 698-1182 Tell Donald that Albert referred you and he'll hook it up! |

That's incredible. I can barely get two tires for that price here, let alone mounting and balancing.

2K miles on my Vreds now with the RAC RG63s. They really are fantastic tires, and quite an amazing bargain. I've now decided I like them better than the PS2s because they have equal warm weather grip, and they are better in the rain.
I'm still not feeling the comparatively higher levels of harshness and road noise that others report. I did notice that after my car sat for 2 weeks after a long business trip, it took 10 minutes or so to even out a bit of flat spotting, but it was still cold at that time. My 8K PS2s are still on my OEM 19's so one weekend, I'll switch back to refresh my memory, for a better comparison.

That would be very interesting...I am loath to switch from the PS2s as they give such great front end grip and a sharp turn in. |

Actually, I think turn-in is one of the dimensions upon which the Vreds have an edge. Grip seems about equal on dry pavement, but the Vreds are superior in wet conditions.

About the only thing that I don't like about the PS2s is the drop off in performance with low temps...typically dropping below ~7C makes a significant difference. Are the VREDESTEIN Ultrac Sessantas any different?

Definitely none better for the price for street use. Not sure that PS2s are any better except slighlty better in ride comfort. It'd be interesting to see performance tests head-to-head between these two.

Agreed. I don't even notice a difference in ride comfort. It feels exactly like the same car it was on the PS2s.

I disagree. Sidewalls are definitely stiffer; I've gotten used to them, but felt pretty harsh at first. PS3s, when available in the right sizes, may be the best street tire (TBD), but they will be much more expensive.

That's fine. I don't feel a noticeable difference in ride comfort. You have your perception, and I have mine.

+1, I don't feel the ride that much harsher compared to the PS2s. Performance-wise, it's relatively close to the PS2s and for the money, it can't be beat.
