M3 on a Go-Kart Track!

On Monday, I signed up to drive my car on the outdoors go-kart track at Pacific Grand Prix. You heard right: The M3 on a go-kart track... The track is brand new and is a lot of fun.

For the 5th time this summer, a couple of guys rented the track to drive their cars on on and registered people to share the cost. Cars are mostly S2000s and Lotus' but the M3 did actually quite well. I was in the second to fastest group (group 2 out of 6) with a Porsche C4 on Toyo R888, and Elise and an S2000, and I was keeping up with these guys just fine.

This is similar to autocrossing with most of the track ran in 2nd gear. 3rd on the straight. The cool thing is that it's a track with FIA style curbing so you can really work on your line. Just a lot more fun if you ask me. I will definitely try to go back.

I have done quite a few Solo 1's on kart track and yes they can be a pile of fun.The best thing is that you learn a lot about your car without putting it or yourself at risk.People should be learning on these tracks before they get out on a big fast track, where they do not really learn enough about really driving at the limit.

That reminds me of what I have done in the last few recent years, though not a organised meeting. My nephew use to race karts and it rekindled my interest in the sport that I use to be involved in also as a youth. I bought myself another kart so he could learn from myself the correct lines and way to handle himself in the heat of competition.

We would hire the local track and after some lengthy session would take what ever car I happened to own at that time around the track. It certainly was lots of fun throwing a big car around such a small track.

That looks like fun!

I used to race a 125cc shifter kart. I would practice on the sprint tracks (like to one pictured above) and then roadrace at places like Infineon and Thunderhill.

MAN was shifter kart racing fun!!! I miss it. Driving the M on the track seems "slow" now. lol The picture of that track brought back all kinds of fun memories!

Amen brother, your ass kissing the ground barely 2 inches off it definitely gave the sensation of real speed. I remember during races I would cover my hand over the radiator to get more heat and a bit extra go for overtaking. No form of motorsport since gave to same excitement.

From what I recall, mainly modified S2000s and Elises.

The fastest guy is actually a good friend of mine with a very modified S2000.
