Bates Prototype Valvetronic Exhaust - Custom OEM Exhaust with Valves
Has anyone seen the inside of a oem exhaust before? I'm curious about the packing/tubing within. I'm considering a special exhaust project.
[BIG EDIT: See below (starts at post #19) for pics of a work in progress of our custom valve-based exhaust, now named the "Samuel E Bates Valvetronic Exhaust".] All of the photos from this mod can be found here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/4023679...7623776183941/ [Long term update] For anyone considering buying Race Ready Cutouts / Valves, you should read this first: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthr...40#post9589740 [Longer term update] JEGS valves have been great. Havent missed a beat in many months. Last edited by Subw00er; 07-29-2011 at 08:06 PM.. |

Ya, it looks like the spot I'll do it is right after the Helmholtz chamber and before the 90deg bend going to the absorption chambers. I'll just have them pipe out the sides.. I have to look under the car to see if there is room there, but that would be the IDEAL place to dump. It likely will be much quieter than where others are dumping - pre muffler, but I want to retain some back pressure and the beneficial Helmholtz chamber effect. I'm just going for more sound here, not HP.
I bought a spare exhaust today..now there's no going back! Man, I really wish I could find a real cut-away view. If anyone has a cut exhaust they are just going to throw out, why not butcher it for us! |

And I bet if you tried looking in the fake tips you'd see a wall instead of.... empty piping.

BTW, this is my plan.. (Graphic images courtesy of Dinan! http://www.dinancars.com/assets/File...st%20FINAL.pdf)
ORIGNAL: MODIFIED with VALVE added (I photoshopped this to add the valves): Is anyone versed in exhaust technology??!?! I am hoping this prevents drone by being after the Helmholtz chambers, but adds noise by being before the absorption chambers. I'll likely add turn down tubes after the valves. I hope there is enough room under there.. Last edited by Subw00er; 11-13-2010 at 09:45 AM.. |

I really should go look! I may have to come out the back side..or at the corners. I could also dump straight down, although thats not ideal.
