RS5 maybe V10?
VIDEO: Audi RS5 at the Nurburgring
Autoblog: "Based on that note, unless they've tweaked the exhaust from the 4.2-liter V8, it sounds to us like there's a certain V10 lurking in that engine bay." I think they may be right, it sounds like no V8 audi has produced. It does sound very similar to the RS6 biturbo V10.

Actually it sounds a lot like any Vee engined Audi. Maybe it their angle of the vee but to me they all have a similar note.
Here's the current RS4 going round the ring. [u2b]mZFc0NBArZA&feature=related[/u2b] And now an S5 revving up. [u2b]arHXtbE3wzk&feature=related[/u2b] See what I mean. |

Not sure.
If you listen at 0:35 in the RS5 video. When it is coming straight at the camera with high revs. It doesn't sound like the RS4 at all. Guess we will know sooner or later. But it is fun to speculate. |

Some form of induction change could be reason for the different, slightly more muffled, exhaust.
Regardless, Audi engine noise/exhaust > 99% of what's out there. That V10 is just avg though.

Im sort of doubtful they put a V10 in there... and from previous spy shots it wasnt forced induction or anything. The most common speculation last time I was looking into the RS5 is a tweaked version of the RS4 V8 doing about 470hp.

I doubt it's a V10 though, it's not an M6 competitor it's a rival to the 2dr M3 in much the same way a the RS4 is a rival to the 4dr version. A V10 engine would position the RS5 well above it's natural competitors which would not be a smart move. |

Most mags have done comparos of the S5 and 335i coupe. But I have seen some mags compare the S5 with the 6-series before, both being grand touring cars. Maybe Audi has some crazy idea, have the RS5 compete with the M6, with a big nasty V10. Just pure speculation, most likely not happening. |

It sure sounds like a naturally aspirated V8 to me with all that raspy induction noise as a turbo will not make that.V10's for the most part just sound like crap with 1 or 2 exeptions.I might be ordering one the RS5 once we know what the spec will be as with our winters the attraction of AWD is too much to resist.

335i 6mt saloon vs S4 in Sportauto mag:335i won that one.
new auto motor und sport carmag: 335i saloon 6mt vs S4, S4 wins but by a very small margin, because the brake distance was excellent. S4 was in the retailprice/cost chapter way too expensive vs the 335i...

Either way this isn't that important, the thing I'm excited in is the fact Audi have another alternative which is more than a match for another BMW which can only be a good thing for us the consumer. |

Not without forced induction on a road going production car. That would be an amazing 112 hp per liter NA My guess it IS a tweaked version of the 4.2 liter in the RS4 but expect it to be in the 430-435 hp range at most. Add that to the lighter RS5 platform and it would make it a pretty quick car. A TT V10 just won't sell very well here in the states, would make the car too front heavy as well. However, two small turbos on the 4.2 liter making 5-6 psi boost would make that one heck of an engine and car. But I'm sure it would require the lower revving 4.2 from the old S4 and current S5. That would put it in the 450 hp range and a boatload of torque which would be awesome for that AWD platform. |
