test drove a M3 and a 135 coupe....
loved them both... loved the M3s super smooth V8. but i've got to be honest, i had more fun in the 135. maybe it was it's size, and the fact i'm used to a smaller car...dunno. but i felt more connected with the 135, and that engine was wonderful.

Really, I found the opposite. I went into the dealership ready to buy a 135. It was great, until I drove it back to back with my Z4 and the 135 seemed very boring after that. Yes it's fast, but the engine seemed slow to rev and everything was muted in comparison (it didn't feel fast). We drove the M3 afterward, and whoa, no comparison. What a motorsport engine - fast to rev, lots of power up high - and the M3 chassis is very neutral at the limit. For me, I was looking for a family car to replace my Z4, and the M3 filled that gap and them some.

One thing I really like about the M3 is the way the front end seems to "jump" while shifting at redline. Plus the sound.

owning it for another two years
i love my M... i've always been a roadster guy. both the 135 and the M3 have two seats too many. they are both great, i think i wasn't expecting much from the 135 and was surprised. and i was expecting something magical from the M3 and got out think... nice car, but i wasn't blown away. neither felt as good as mine, granted i have an aftermarket exhaust which is probably an unfair advantage to both. they rumbled, my car screams. nothing a nice aftermarket exhaust on both couldn't fix. in two years if the new Z4M is a disappointment, i'll probably go for the M3... it's a ferocious looking car, and i'm a sucker for an M badge. the 135 cab is just a little to soft looking for me... 5 or 6 years ago i would have LOVED one as my first BMW, but i think i need something a little further up the BMW food chain... christ, i'm becoming an A-hole snob. |

funny, my wife and i went in to lease her a new car. she has a 325xi sedan now, and had planned on leasing a face lifted 328xi sedan. after test driving it, i asked her how she liked it... she said "ehh, it's fine... drive just like the car i have now".... so she drove the coupe, liked it because it was sportier, better looking and a change. so, we leased the coupe.... on the way home she was telling me that she felt obnoxious... that she is lucky to be driving such a nice car as it is, her friends would kill to have her car. i told her you only live once, and really, another $50 a year was not a big deal... especially if she would enjoy the car that much more.

Don't be so sure of yourself, the M3 is a mammoth vehicle compared to the M Roadster, and once you get used to have a quick little car, a big car, just feels big.

not really, i could afford either. maybe it's just that the 1 seems a better value on paper. don't get me wrong, the M3 is a beast... i loved the interior, the sound, the image... if i were to chose tomorrow i'd take the M3... because it is a monster, the 1 is more of a goblin.

look, I love the 135i and plan to get one. But there is no one anywhere that would take the 135i over the M3 if they were the same price...period. if you say you would your lieing.... there may be an exception as there always is, but still.

I agree with the same price then the M3, but they aren't and they will never be so I don't speculate much about the impossible. I bought a 135i because I found out too late that I could have had a new Z4M for same price. (Dealers were running a promotion.) 135i is small but still not that miata mx5/s2k razor edge sharpness. You can make a heavy car feel light on its feel but you can't duplicate the small car dartiness.

some of you need to read the original post.... he was comparing a 135i to a M3.... he was not considering a z4... he already has one...
again other then cost there is no reason to get a 135i over an M3... so quit kidding yourselves.
