Unscheduled stop at dealer...needed oil and air..

With 5,000 miles the low oil light came on 2 days ago...TPMS light came on yesterday...they added one quart of oil and said this is very normal and found a 2 inch nail in the rear tire. All in all one hour at dealer, great service and $20 out of pocket. However the tech did say my rear tire is no longer "Z" rated...huh......(camera phone, sorry about the pic quality)

So out of curiosity, does the computer tells you how much oil to add?

You should be checking both of those items at least every couple weeks.

yea youre tires are no longer Z rated because they have been patched... some tracks require you to use only tires that have not had patches or repairs done on them for safety reason since the patch is usually the weakest part of the tire.

no charge for the oil.....I guess it was just the time it took to remove nail and patch tire....the more I think about it...they should have just said "your ready to go" with no charge!!??....

Z-rated patches and repair procedures are available.

Theoretically, if you clean the tire out, it could be patched. Most tire shops would not want to deal with it, though. I carry a plug kit as a cleaner alternative.

Totally normal... My old 550I drank oil and my X5 4.8 is even worse. All the V8's are thirsty. Also, my M will need air in the tires if it sits in the garage for a long period of time without driving. (couple weeks) specially if I was spinning the tires before I put her to bed.
