So what software level is it showing on the screen?
Here are my before and after...

So the Multimedia side is fine, it's just the Telephone side. Hmmm interesting.
Have you tried my file I posted just in case, could be something wrong with the other one.

I did try with your bin file, yep.

The original origin of my Combox Media was from an LCI R56 Mini, so I wonder if that has an impact.

It all works exactly as required, so it's more 'vanity' I guess.

Strange, but as long as it's working then that's the main point.

I am in the same boat on my E90 2011 CIC Business. I managed to update to 1006, but get the 'Update on USB is not the latest version' for 1008. Did you manage to resolve it or figure out why it is happening?

This is my issue, I've downloaded the latest SW to a FAT32 flash drive, and I cannot get it to flash. I know the USB stick in the armrest is getting power because I have a blinky light on it and also verified the black FAKRA is connected to the module. Doing a bunch of research of this has pretty much led me to a dead-end. Certainly I'm convinced it's a coding parameter or something. Also, I verified I have the appropriate $6FL in the FA. NCSEXPERT shows the USB coding aktiv and Here's some of the links I've been trying to follow.

Any ideas?

P.S. (also tried a different USB stick--no success)

CIC is a CIC.C1A version
Combox is a CMEDIAR.C05 version

This is version 1006, hope this helps.

Also has anyone been able to flash version 1008? It keeps saying that it's not the newest version.

Download link v. 1006:

Thank you - still getting value from your 1006 bin update.

Updating Combox to UPD01006

Just wanted to give an update to everyone who participated on this post. I updated my buddy's Combox to the latest version available. The UPD01008 did not work on it as it was not relevant for that particular P/N. Therefore, I tried the UPD01006 and it updated.

Lessons learned:
* Don't get hung up on which version exactly for the update--focus on just finding the latest SW update for your version of Combox

* Make sure your USB stick is in FAT32 and MBR and add the file to the root director

* Place the USB stick in the armrest and navigate to the SW update screen on CIC

Exclamation Fix for UPD01008 "The update is not up-to-date"

Hi guys,

I've found out why the 01006 is being installed and why the 01008 is not. I had the same problem of updating bluetooth and that bin file was considered "not up-to-date". After exceesive search I found a response from this guy (Last comment):

HTML Code:

The problem was that the bin file seem to have expiration date on it, and its set to Jan 1 2024. So in order to install it past that time, simply change the car date to earlier date and run the install.

I've tested it, set the date to 1 year early and the software allowed the install. Please see bellow screens.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

Well I have a vehicle that I can certainly try this out on and report back!

Great find.

What an insane problem. Nice find with the solution though. This info will no doubt help people in the future, as this will block absolutely everyone yet to install UPD01008 from installing it.

This forum rocks!

I have a 2011 E92 that I performed this update on without any issues. (Also had a 2011 E93 - same thing, no issues).

I recently purchased a 2012 E93 (9/2011 build) that would not display streaming music info (i.e. streaming Spotify through my phone, artists names, song names, etc.). I knew downloading this would fix it, but for the life of me, this 2012 E93 would not accept the download. It gave the same error others got.

I saw the change of date resolution, and attempted to download it to the car again - no success.

I went back to 2019 - no go.

As a final resort, I looked back to when I originally downloaded the file for my other cars. (It was back in 2021). Not sure if there's a connection to date of download or not, but changing the car's date to 2021 WORKED!

Artist info for Bluetooth is now visible on a 2012 model.

As above, GREAT FIND indeed! But id didnt work right a way for me...
I had my own 1008 file that i used to update few e70 X5 in the past and rush to the car and changed date (trough CIC) to 2017 it keeps denying my update, reset CIC (i have C1A) and still wont go!
Shut off and went inside for a bit, download 1008 file from this thread and used the same stick, and i think this where it worked, car fall asleep during my away time and clock applied to all modules, at least i believe that this what happen.
UPDATE: Deleted update through CIC (Restore previous version) and used my 1008 file (Modified date of my 1008 file is 2/20/23) and the file in this thread is 5/12/23 and my own 1008 file worked.
So, the car HAS to apply date or maybe a battery disconnect.
