No Air from Vents
In my E90 M3, the air and heat stopped working out of nowhere. Never made any weird noises or had any issues. On cold or hot, nothing comes out of the vents. When I turn it on I don't hear anything.
I checked the related fuses and they were all fine. Any other suggestions on what the issue might be? |

I'd guess it's the blower motor shorting out, which isn't that expensive and can be replaced yourself. It's just behind the glvoe compartment. I did it a few years back after reading all the forum threads about it. Good luck!

That was my next idea as well. Just wasn't sure if it was a common issue on the e90's or if there was something else to check first. I'll replace the motor and update if that was the issue. Thanks!

before you pull it all the way out, confirm that that's the issue by giving it 12V directly (disconnect the existing wiring first, of course).

Have you had the blower recall performed? The wiring burns up and depending on the condition of the wiring upon inspection a “long” or “short” repair harness would’ve been installed and a new final stage with the long harness.

^^ I'd completely forgotten about this. I had this done years after i replaced the motor itself, but I think I remember reading that if the motor is damaged 'because" of the wiring harness issues, you might get a free replacement. Maybe worth a shot, if you can schedule the recall service quickly enough.
My local dealer has mobile service for recalls and did the airbag and this at my house in 30 min. |

What's the condition of the battery? The car will start shutting off various devices including the blower fan if voltage is too low.

The power connector gets all shitty. Just buy a new connector, cut the wires as close to the connector as long as the wiring still looks good and splice on a new one. It’s rarely the motor. The connector gets hot and melts a little or water creeps in and oxidizes the connection tabs.

Did you take the front dash out? I had an issue with my blower when I upgraded my radio (Mr 12 volt). I had to take the front controls (HVAC control, start, button, etc.) I had to reseat my HVAC controls plug and that fixed me. Worth a shot.

Don’t need to take out the dash. Bellow the dash, two screws and the bottom panel comes off. It’s right there.

RESOLUTION: When I ran 12V directly to the original blower motor it spun fine. Then I plugged in the new motor to the car to check the wiring and it worked with the cars controls and power, so the issue must have been with the resistor rather than the motor itself. I ended up switching out the whole unit since I already had it and got it for around the same price I would have bought the resistor for anyways.
Thanks for the help everyone! |
