M3 E92 harsh vibration and clunking:Help
Hi guys, I just got my engine and transmission mounts changed to stiffer ones, didnt have any problems or noises with the car before hand. Now when I accelerate between 2000-4000rpm the car has a harsh vibration in the rear and there is a random clunking when I slow down. Think it’s the centre support bearing but not 100% sure. Can anyone help?

solid transmission mounts create vibrations in that range, what mounts did you install?

Any aftermarket solid rubber engine/transmission mounts on this car always bring out significant vibrations at multiple rpm ranges..
There is a reason why BMW went with liquid filled engine mounts.. liquid absorbs vibrations.. BMW could’ve saved money by going with soft solid rubber but wouldn’t get the desired refinement! Based on personal experience with Bimmerworld rubber motor mounts, the vibrations do decrease after 1200 miles or so of use but still present. You might want to keep driving for a thousand miles & see if it improves enough.. |

I experienced some vibration immediately after 034 transmission mounts as well. Pretty normal.
After a while they get broken in and feels better and reduce a bit. OEM transmission mounts feel bit sloppy when shifting in a manual. There is still a slight vibration but shifting feels much crisper and cleaner in a manual now. I gotten used to the minor vibratoon as there are more benefits to it. |
