Damn it's hot! What the hell?
Driving down today amid 90F heat (Jersey heat, the disgusting kind) I notice something peculiar. The drivers footwell is HOT. My legs and feet felt like they were slowly baked. I've never noticed this before and it got so hot at one point that I decided to roll up the windows and turn on the A/C even though it was perfectly okay to drive with the windows down on the road (I was doing about 70mph when I began to feel toasty).
I was stuck in traffic for about 10-15min prior to the road opening up, which is when I started noticing how hot the footwell area got (the panels were almost hot to the touch). Anyone else experience this? edit: Vents/fans were not on. Last edited by ihyln; 08-01-2008 at 10:50 PM.. |

Nope, they were definitely off. In fact, the whole climate control system was off since it would just blow hot air at me anyway. I had no fans running at all and I made sure to check.

If you keep the windows down and turn on AC with most directed to the footwells you should be fine.

Someone commented about this as well with the C63. Apparently, these cars/engines generate a lot of heat.

Did someone say c 6 3?
My C63 does not transfer any engine heat into the passenger compartment. There is plenty of heat in the engine compartment though. I wonder what hardware is behind the driver footwell in the M3... m d c t perhaps? Maybe Greg has a diagram.... ?

....dude, did you write some program that monitors the forums 24/7 for any mention of the C63, then notifies of such occurrences on your Crackberry so you can then promptly respond?

Great, we've got the boys from the bay and Jersey complaining about how hot their e92s get in the summer. I guess I'm completely f*cked when I get mine. It's been 100 degrees with 90% humidity all week here. You drive 10 minutes here with the windows down and no A/C, it'll feel like you showered with your clothes on.

If it makes you feel better this is the first time I noticed this in over 3 weeks of driving during the summer. I think it had to do with me being stuck in traffic for 15 minutes. |

I've noticed heat in the footwells too.....granted it is FAR hotter here....but what I noticed is this:
when I first get in the car and its HOT (95F+ outside)...I turn the AC to max.....in just a few minutes it gets nice and cold..so I switch to auto at around 72F....I feel cold air at my feet (I have the airflow set for maybe 15% feet).....after about another 10 minutes it no longer blows cold air on my feet, but warm air???? Not hot by any means but substantially warmer than the nice cold air I get out of the main vents? I would say about ambient.... I just figured its part of the program or something? But looking at the engine pics with those headers that get red hot....they have to be REALLY close to the firewall....

I live in New Orleans, no problems with the heat that I have noticed. Auto AC is set to "Intensive" in iDrive.
