Also capacity. Those 3 different model numbers correspond to different liters. That merin one is the slickest answer, but doesn’t save much weight, especially when it’s bigger than OEM. But it is in the lowest spot possible.

With shipping, customs, etc it’s over $8k for that option. Plus fuel pumps. We considered it for a while, but ended up doing a custom fuel cell in the trunk area that met what we wanted to do capacity wise and was way less expensive.
Thanks evilspiritM3 (what's your name)?

A few follow-up questions to your response:
  1. Does the Merin one save any weight whatsoever?
  2. How much weight does say your setup save compared to both the OEM and that Merin one?
  3. Is there a better purpose for Fuel Tank/Cell to be at the lowest spot possible, as opposed to how you have it in your trunk?
  4. What makes the Merin one so expensive? Just trying to gauge where the $8K price is coming from, compared to even a Fuelsafe option being like $4K USD.

Thanks, and I look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Alex, my name is also Alex-

The OEM fuel tank is the best place as far as I can tell for a fuel tank. It’s as low as you can go.

I doubt the tanks themselves weigh that much more or less than one another. But when you add 5-10 extra gallons of fuel, that weight make the tank weight feel less consequential.

My placement isn’t perfect compared to the OEM location. You can see pics in the sedan are faster thread.

I think the cost of the merin tank is like $4-5k. VAC is the only dealer in the U.S. I think and the quote for shipping, customs, etc got up to $8k+.

The ISTA instructions state the procedure requires two people and a pressure bleeder. The second person pumps the brake pedal after the DSC activates for a specific corner and during this time, a lot of fluid should be flowing out. My pressure was set to 15 PSI. I purchased a brand new Motiv bleeder, filled it, and still need to refill it with fluid after doing just the rear corners during the DSC bleed procedure.

Also took me several DSC bleed plan runs in ISTA until air bubbles stopped coming out. Remember the air has to travel from the DSC unit, through the hard lines, and out of the caliper so waiting about 10 seconds the DSC activation and brake pedal pumps should guarantee it comes out. If you're seeing air bubbles right away after opening the bleeder screw, that's not from the DSC unit.
I mean... I followed the ISTA procedure, which is what you describe. Brakes feel good afterwards, but I only went through maybe a liter of fluid. I hooked up the pressure bleeder, bled the lines to get all the sputtering out (it was probably 30-45 seconds of normal fluid, then a lot of sputtering, then fluid again). Then I ran the DSC bleed routine, going through the corners. Certainly possible I messed something up, but it doesn't feel like it. Only thing I can think of was that I didn't have a second person so I just hopped in and out of the car a lot (lol), to change corners. Given that a pressure bleeder was connected at all times (I kept it at 12 PSI), I'm not worried about it back-siphoning air or something.

Hi all

Doing some research for a friend and he's looking to add some BC ZR coilovers (external res.) and I can't find much on these to give him feedback.

I told him they're the typical cheap taiwanese coilover but he's loved them back on his other cars but wants to do some more track-oriented driving with this e92..

Anyone heard or have any experience with these so I can report back?

I'm pretty sure a large percentage of the Formula Drift cars are running BC ZR's, so they must decent.

Beyond that, I have no info to provide lol. I've looked into them trying to find info for my own curiosity in the past, but haven't found anything meaningful. So I'd be curious to hear if anyone has feedback as well.

I've had friends achieve respectable lap times with most of these coilovers. BC typically supplies most of the "Taiwanese" coilovers on the market, with each one doing their own tuning.

I personally used a similar coilover on my M3 before upgrading and managed to achieve my personal best at Buttonwillow. If he's just getting started with tracking or dual duty, I don't see a problem at all. However, despite using custom spring rates and other adjustments, the ride quality often feels harsh and too bouncy. This is likely due to the internal design of the shock itself.

However, as we typically say in this sub-forum, it's better to do it right the first time. Spending a bit extra for a proper setup is worth it.

Personally, the BC DZ is already priced around sub 3K. At that price point, it's better to just get Ohlins DFV.

One of the nice things about BC, Silvers, S3 suspension, Feal, Fortune Auto, etc., is that they tend to come with everything included, such as end-links, camber plates, and options for custom spring rates.

As far as drifting goes, it makes sense to use cheaper coilovers that can be easily fixed and replaced. Plus, let's be real, no one's going to fully send an MCS 2-way for drifting.

An alternative option could be the ST lineup, which is the steel body version of KW suspension. So I would suggest the ST XTA Plus 3 over the BC DZ for that reason.

I told him to just go with the Ohlins DT like I have or the KW v3 or for a few bucks more, club sports..

I feel like unless you REALLY know how to adjust and utilize the Adjustments on the reservoirs then its not going to be worth it.

Absolutely, having 2-3 way adjustability doesn't seem necessary and can actually do more harm than good if you're not well-versed on the subject.

For me, I can't be bothered. 1-way for life works just fine for my dual-duty car. I only frequent one track in SoCal, and I simply follow a note that says to run this dampening setting at this tire pressure, and then I go about my day.

Even if I needed to find a way to gain tenths of a second on a lap and my limiting factor was my 1-way setup, I still wouldn't care to upgrade. But if someone does care, then they can go for the MCS 1Weiner and then upgrade to the 2Weiner.

^ this.

there is really no point in going fuel cell unless you're going to do some endurance racing. you might also complicate things with fuel pump fitment, ventilation, and tuning to accommodate all of the above.
i know you're going over the top, but this is a lot of effort for possibly a net weight gain as well as a lot of money and effort spent for no real wow factor. oem is a plastic tank with aluminum straps and a couple of bolts. i don't think there is anything to be gained (in terms of weight loss) here.

Look up redshift motorsports

Also look up the grassroots article on them

They are custom valved BC single adjustable from Chris Shennefield. If I recall, they toss a majority of the BC components. You can ring him up to confirm.

I went with a set this season. Will report back after the March 3rd event for shakedown.

I think the magnesium covers in the S65 is one of those quirky cool things. Its unique and racey. He did this great engine build to factory spec and then did aluminum covers. I don’t like it.
