I'm a double hump guy myself but I do love these Euro single hump + extended leather combos. We never got that in the US (even though I've seen an early 08 E93 with it once).

Beautiful car OP!!

Leather BambusBeige restoration : armrest, center console, thigh support

Before

With clear tint of the BambusBeige it's hard to see defect on picture but if you wet it you see there isn't tint or mat coat on them

cleaning, stripping, sanding, applying the tint

After

And some "soft touch" nightmare

plastic unsolded

cleaning, stripping, sanding,

Waiting for plastic primer,

To be continued...

RB time!

Here is open heart surgery done,

Some essential tools to avoid spending 2 days there or getting bored unnecessarily

It's very clean inside, it has 40,000 km, no deposits or residues at the bottom of the oil pan.

We spot the connecting rods (broken) even if they have a marking on this block, it avoids bullshit

Example of the condition of the 8th bearing vs a new bearing...it's not shiny

All mounted with Permatex assembly lube and ARP grease for the connecting rod screws

All the bearings in a totally abnormal state (for me), I specify these are the 702/703 alu/tin bearings because if the car is from 2007 the engine is from 2015 following exchange.

The crankpin of cylinder 4 is OK, to ask how it is possible given the scratch (we can feel it very well by passing the nail) on the 2 bearings, that of the correctional was not far

An advice always calibrate the dynamometer wrench before this type of work, the ARP screws are tightened to 50 ft.lbs or 68Nm => adjustment to 70 on the key the calibration certificate says 68Nm for 70Nm mark, I made 2 tightening passes one to 40Nm and one at 70Nm.

I couldn't close oil pan, 2 screws of the oil pump pipe support remained in my hands (mounted tight like donkeys and with loctite), I managed to get them out but I'm waiting for the new screws on order ...

In short to those who imagine that making the RB on this block is an accessory, or that the alut/tin ph2 pads are better, or that it can wait... proof by example.

--Aramis-- Thank you for all the photos and the awesome amount of renovation details. You're my hero for doing rod bearings without a lift in your own garage and on your back. Well done. Keep up the excellent work and updates. Tres bon.

On this kind of work, I even prefer to work on the floor rather than on a lift.

You just have to calculate how much to lift the car to not get stuck afterwards

On other cars I made differentials, gearbox with a lift, if you are alone I prefer to do it on the floor rather than standing arms outstretched... A matter of personal choice

by saying this is some king shit, he meant it as a compliment to you. as in you are very good at repairing your car on your own, etc.

Props to the DIY RB service but holy shit does that "engine support bar" look sketchy as hell, but hey if it works, it works. lol.

Not sure I'd be willing to have 500-600lbs worth of stuff dangling on top of me with that setup, you're a brave man.
