Need help wiring dashcam
Hi Everyone,
I purchased a dashcam off amazon and it didn't come with any instructions on how to wire it. the wiring harness has 3 ends one is labeled 12v, one is labeled ACC, and last one is ground. The ground one I can guess pretty much can go on any metal bolt but the 12v and ACC one i'm a bit confused, they are designed to be wired into the fuse box. anyone know where i can plug these in? also suggestions on how to run the wire from the rear view mirror area to the fuse box would be appreciated i'll upload a pic for reference soon

Ground attaches to ground. In the e9x, there should be a screw that bolts onto a metal part of the chassis when you take out the glove box and it's exposed right there. I think it's like a t25 or something.
ACC = switched ignition. Find a fuse that turns on ONLY when you put the ignition on and your accessories turn on. That is, when you push the start/stop twice but don't start the engine. Mine's hooked up to a the bluetooth, IIRC 12V = constant power. I'm assuming that your dash cam has a parking mode availability with self power cut-off if the battery drops below 12.4 or something. But self explanatory. Connect this to a constant 12v source, such as interior dome lights (only certain ones), or parking lamps. Be careful and don't unplug a DME module because you will get certain errors that with certain tools can only clear. On my E70 X5M, I pulled the DSC by accident and I had to re-set the angle sensor using my ICOM. To run the rear cam to the fuse box, I took my interior trim tool and tucked everything under the headliner. Ran it along the side of the car. |

Noticed that the wiring harness provides the mini fuse shaped blades not the standard size blades that I believe our car uses, I'm guessing they can't be plugged into our fuse box slots ? Is there a solution to this ?

The solution is very simple. Just cut them off and buy two sets of add a fuse mini type. Then strip the wires and connect to the add a fuse Most of the hardwiring kits are sold with the ACC and 12V already stripped so that it's easy to add a fuse. If you don't want to use add a fuse, strip the wires anyway to about 1/3in and wrap the wire to one of the fuse legs. Insert the fuse back into the slot and it will work just as well. |

Got it all wired up, used some empty slots in the fuse box and found one that had power with the car on and one with constant power. Thank you both for your help
