I think the ideal upper diffuser has no fins/veins, to allow the undertray to tuck closer to the upper rear diffuser.
The rear diffuser with fins is a must, when installed by itself. But when you add the undertray, the fins become overkill. The undertray is the star of that show. I think 3D Design and maybe RKP (check IND) might make the proper rear diffuser. I have a BMW E90 M3 and might need to go this route. The full two piece VARIS system is for a E92/E93 M3 only.
