Engine vibration, 'noise' identification. Rod bearings?
Have this vibration just started today, can't say if it has been there before and getting worse, felt it first rather than heard anything.
Engine feels a little rough though. Wasn't like this yesterday. 91,000km Full dealer history. 12,000km oil changes. On video phone was under the car on LH side behind wheel. Revs to 3000rpm, 2500rpm, 3500rpm Video: https://www.facebook.com/davey.boy.3...96688382395997 |

Will try to get some time to put on a lift tmrw.
Also this vibration and associated noise can feel through the car and steering wheel. Driving and stationary Didn't have anyone on hand to rev the car so i could listen and look either yet. And engine mounts replaced about 5 months back. |

Bit of a update. Not had much time to spend on the car.
Haven't found anything loose externally thats causing a resonance of anything like that as yet. Pulled the oil filter for a look and did find some worrying metal flakes (pink circles). All are white metal with a mixture of magnetic and non-magnetic (larger pieces). Also some fine 'dust' see pic with green circle. And some valve cover paint, pic with blue circle. |

So pulled the AC belt and the noise & vibration is virtually gone. Reconnected and its comes back.
Also fitted the new style low fuel pressure sensor. Engine did seem a lot smoother. Though didn't fully warm up or rev it past 2000 as was only at 60c AC pulley has about 1-1.5mm of play in it. Same as the tension pulley, also about the same amount of play. To be honest though i am not sure if this is bad or normal for both parts. But typically snapped the upper hose overflow pipe putting fan back in... doh |

A loose exhaust gasket can cause rattling noises aka replacing it should fix that and any driving issues.. shot engine mounts... is what you generally would feel on the steering wheel... you can tell if the engine is sitting closer to the belly pan more than usual also..

12000km OCI is not good for these engines. Go with 5000km or 1 year MAX, whichever hits the mark faster.
Your VANOS chain guide may be on its way out, supposedly common with high mileage motors. I would also get the RBs done ASAP, mine looked terrible around similar mileage and it's a relatively cheap insurance. Maybe deansbimmer chime in on this one. Quote:
