Stabilus E9x M3 Hood Lift Support - part number confirmed!!
Hello everyone,
I was recently helping out a friend with this and wanted to condense some of the knowledge that I was able to compile off this forum. I believe this issue was solved earlier this year but is buried deep in a not so obvious thread. There is a lot of misinformation out there regarding the M3 hood shocks. Many BMW vendors out there have a persistent error regarding the correct part number or superceded part numbers for our cars. Our aluminum hoods use the 200N valving on the strut, not the regular E9x valving for the steel hood of 330N. The part WILL FIT but is not the correct tension for our application. This is even more important if you are running an aftermarket CF hood. The Correct BMW part number is: 51237900795 (be cautious here as some vendors will still send you the 330N replacement). The correct Stalibus part number is: ST016717 You can buy directly here: https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/c.../sls0/st016717 It is about $17 or so which is significantly less than the BMW branded part. The BMW part is made by the same manufacturer. Might be good to make this a sticky if it helps others. I take no credit for any of this. I'm just surfacing up information off this firm forum to help others.

Thanks for consolidating and posting this patroklai. For anyone ordering from that O'Reilly Auto link, you have to select a store to show ship to home options. It doesn't matter how far away you are from the store, but you won't get any shipping options until you pick a store location. I received my lift supports in two days, and verified that they're the 200n pressure we need for the M3 hoods.

Thanks for sharing! I ordered OEM ones but luckily didn't install. So they're going back and ordering a set of these!

Just got mine. They worked perfect! I actually noticed the ones from oreilly were identical matches to the original OEM ones on the car
The OEM replacements I got from turner actually had a shorter collar, kinda hard to see since they're in a sealed plastic bag. Top: original OEM from new Middle: oreilly stabilus Bottom: OEM replacements
