Here is the roof after the resin was peeled off and clear coated. Body shop said the used 3 coats. Will go back for another 2 or 3 after a couple of months.

Looks like it turned out pretty well. Did they advise on coming back after the full cure or did you request?

They did not. All they did was take the original clear coat off and peel the yellowed resin. After that they sprayed it with 3 coats of clear coat. I will go back in November to get it finished with sanding and polishing with more clear coat

When the roof failed on my e92, I had the shop remove the resin. I asked that they tint the clear to make it a little darker and it came out perfect. This was a few years ago so I don't have any photos to share.

Never knew that you can tint the clear. I'm guessing it's too late now to ask for that. They have already sprayed 3 coats of clear

Unless it was cracked or otherwise damaged there would be no need to remove the top to simply refinish it. The odds of damaging the roof to remove it would far out weigh any benefit realized to the refinishing process. That would be crazy.

For what its worth, I just had my roof refurbed and it turned out great. Alamo Collision in Alvin TX for those of us in Houston. I've got a thread on my adventure: https://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1969801

Years of aging in the TX/CA sun and it looks like it came out from the factory.
