The Ridge Motorsports Park.
Laptime: 1:43.9 on two corded tires haha. Tires were used michelin 27-65 slicks that I corded in 3 sessions while stuck in constant traffic. So, for the 4th session I just went out for a few laps to get at least one hot one in. First time trying Michelins and the balance was not as good as I’m used to (more understeer on turn in). A decent set of pirelli dh takeoffs would’ve been lower 43 for sure and lasted much longer than 3 sessions…perhaps the skinny 270mm width was partially to blame.

This day was a lot of fun. Second time running this configuration of Thunderhill. Hot day, PB lap was in 90 degrees weather but I finally got a clean lap before the A052 tires overheated. I can only get one good lap with those tires, then I'm out of grip. I did not plan on running these tires, but a few days before the event, we found out my set of Toyo RR had two bubbles in one of the tires. I was lucky to be able to buy these A052 scrubs off a friend.
My friend's S2000 on Hoosiers (in class S2, one higher than my S3 class w/SpeedSF) did a 3:02.x. Another friend's V10 R8 on Pirelli DHB slicks was doing 3:05-3:06. I finally did under 3:10, with a 3:09.30 and an optimal lap of 3:07.x. There was an ST1 class corvette breaking in a new engine who qualified right behind me for the lineup. Don't know his lap times, but it looks like they decided to get into the higher revs this session. Had a friend who happens to be a Le Mans LMP3 + USTCC GT driver test my car the next day at Laguna Seca. We found some issues to be fixed with the setup, and he confirmed the problems I've been having. Lots of engine oil heat soak to be solved with an oil diverter valve, DCT shift lag to be solved with the do88 cooler, and I'm running the dampers a few clicks too stiff. The net result is that I'm only getting 1-2 laps of good performance, and mid-corner grip is lacking, causing an overload of rear tires mid-corner with some snap oversteer. Transition is too slow with it being too stiff, so we'll solve that first, then see how the front/rear balance is. Track/Course: Thunderhill Raceway 5-mile, double bypass configuration Best Lap Time: 3:09.30 Brake Pads: Project Mu 999 Tires (Size & Model): A052 295/30/18 Suspension: JRZ RS One, 700/1000 springs Other Mods: Evolve x-pipe, ESS tune, BBK, replica GTS wing Last edited by kyippee; 09-06-2021 at 09:23 PM.. |

Weight: The car—no fuel no driver—is around 3085 lbs. I’m 180 with my gear on. Figure half a tank of gas is around 50 lbs. So total driving weight is around 3315 lbs. Whp is in the 550s. For my first trip to VIR, I was ok with the results, but I had to fight hard to find open track in the brutal heat. (Had a solid 1:57 going on Sunday morning when I caught traffic after the back straight. On my build thread, I went into some detail about how the sessions went.) After my results in the 94ºF temps, other people have said 1:56 should be no problem on a cooler day. I do believe 1:56 would be quite doable given that I've already been on mid-1:57 pace and I feel like there's quite a bit more to learn there. Some others have predicted even more aggressive times. hehe I don't know what to say about that other than, I would love to go back and keep learning. Ultimately, I really enjoyed VIR. Glad that SYT_Shadow talked me into adding it last minute to the WGI trip.

Was that your car that was just on BAT? If so, I was born and raised in Dade City. Sebring’s a lot of fun… considering the extra power more brakes and cooling is probably a good idea!

But I'm bummed that my mistake cost me a 1:46.

Latest Lap around Laguna 1:38.4s. Turn 3 was still pretty wet but the rest of the track was dry.

What is that noise 0:21 seconds going into the first left turn, I think T16? Could be just tire scrub, but it sounds different than the scrub @T7/6. Thanks for posting these, love watching your laps. |

Thanks! Yeah, the first one at T16 is tire scrub. You can see the car goes slightly sideways right after. The one at T7/6 was where I said I made the mistake. However, fsmtnbiker looked at it and theorized there must have been something on the track, because I lost the front end and then lost the rear end....different kind of sound for a different kind of sliding I guess......Whatever it was, it was a shame because I lost 0.4 sec on that T7/6 sliding....
