No steering wheel shaking under braking so it looks like it’s some odd rotor issue. Who tests/rebuilds ST rotors? New rotor and hat are around 700 which I’d like to avoid spending.
i'm thoroughly confused by this post. there is nothing to rebuild with the rotors. the rotors get spent. you bolt a new rotor and reuse the hat with new hardware. what is there to test about it?

The rotors are still practically new in terms of material left and cracks on the surface. Drove the car again and the steering wheel shaking is back. Tech I spoke to said I'd spend a bit of money on diagnosis to find out what I already know so no point bringing it.

What I would like tested is the run out on the rotors and separately the rotor hats to see what is out of spec. If it's just the rotor hat which got damaged somehow and the rotor is fine, that's a much cheaper replacement. Or it could be something with the hardware mounting the rotor to the hat.

If it's the rotor itself that has uneven wear, that could maybe be fixed with resurfacing.

A "rebuild" service I need would review all of that and fix whatever is necessary.

I strongly suspect that the new parent company of Centric/Stoptech is trying to cut costs and we're starting to see the results of that. Unfortunately.

Which pad shape were you using with the ST60? Looking to try the AP6 as the default option of the AP5 shape would scratch up the rotor hats.

Installed a remote power/start/stop recording switch for my GoPro that's in reach while harnessed in.

Single press turns it on and starts recording. Second press stops recording and powers it off.

No more fussing in grid or trying to start it at the last possible second to avoid heat issues. For me this is superior to a Bluetooth remote, voice control, or phone app.

Solution was provided by Wired Remote dotcom

UPDATE: replacing the brake booster vacuum lines and sensor fixed the issue, i basically had no fluid being pushed through the lines.

SAD UPDATE.

was doing a pressure sensor test for the brakes and checking to see if codes came back, then when i leave the parking lot the FRM bricked, taking it in for warranty replacement next Tuesday fortunately.

I've had an ABS/DSC/brake light issue driving me crazy for a few weeks. A Carly scan told me it may have been a rear wheel speed sensor. I replaced both rear sensors but nothing changed.

I have been researching more advanced scanners, like the nice bidirectional Autel unit (around $1k) because I'm sick of not having enough info. Can someone tell me if that's a waste of money and there's a better option?

I don't think I'd use an expensive scanner often enough to spend the money on one. Might be more economical to take it to someone with one and just pay for a scan to diagnose, then do the work yourself.

if you have a laptop/macbook and the patience to learn, you can get the BMW tools for free to use and scan your vehicle for a deep scan on all modules. as well as repair and diagnosing procedures

bimmergeeks pro-tools is my go to for "on the road" diagnostics and track side tool, majority of the time i will have my laptop for track days to help other BMW owners diagnose their problems.

this might also be a silly thought, but lets just get it out in the open for discussions sake- anyone regret getting a cage? i still enjoy driving my car on the street and will continue to do so. appropriate padding will be in place. i guess i'm just thinking out loud and doing some soul searching with the hierarchy of mods that are coming. i can't help but think if i would be just as happy with a bk harness bar and the seats, helmet, harness, and hans to go with it.
we would be adding weight, but increasing the rigidity of the car the added safety is obvious, but how much, really? modern cars are pretty safe. seems silly to weigh these thoughts, but am i really going to be that much safer?
Nobody knows i used to have a welded cage because my carpet covers it now lolol

I'm not worried about going back to stock. We're past that now.

That radiator support is designed to deter DIY maintenance and get more shop hours for the service guys at the BMW dealers, I'm convinced. It's perfectly designed to make hamburger out of forearms

Oh my effing god, you just triggered a PTSD episode!

My intercooler prevented me from removing the fan, so I had to replace the PS pump with the fan in.
Absolutely sliced my arms to ribbons.

(I have since modified the intercooler mounting so it's easily removable, best use of an entire weekend of all time on my car, even though I didn't actually repair anything)
