BMW M3 or Nissan GTR
Hello everyone, I've been reading on this M3post forum for a while to learn more and more about the new E92 M3 from the users perspective. You all have really sweet @$$ cars (grats to everyone that bought one) and I would love to have one. I have been an M3 fan for over 10 years but never had the money to afford one. After reading your topics and responses, makes me wanna run out and buy one now but I've run into a dilemma.
I can finally afford this monster aka M3 (I respect the handling, power, styling, history, etc). If you ask any of my friends or family they will say "did he get his M3 yet?". Alright let me get to the point. I apologize in advance if I missed a post similar to this. I'm trying to decide between two cars that I know aren't direct competitors to many people, the upcoming M3 CSL or the Nissan GTR. They are both stunning cars that handle well. I will rarely be on the track and 0-60 & 1/4 mile isn't the most important thing to me (but deep down we know its somewhat important. I'm looking for a fast luxury sports car that is very comfortable but will also give me that rush I need every day (with either a M3 or GTR badge). I will probably take the car to the track a few times a year just to get away from traffic and get on the car. Also note I've wanted the M3 for around 10 years now but I really like the GTR styling too now that it's finally a production car. The only car I care about burnin' on the road is the IS-F, my good friend will not stop talking about that thing. On a side note -- I have no interest in the Mercs, Cadillacs, or any GM vehicle. I need help!!! |

To me it sounds like you want the M3 since you care about luxury and comfort. GT-R is minimal in those aspects. If the M3 has been your dream then get it.

I had the same question asking myself. The more research i did, the more i learned the GTR is more race oriented. Unless you plan on taking the GTR to a local track regularly, I would go for the M3 as it's better all around car that you can actually drive everyday. Even the GTR being cheaper here which made it very tempting, the car was made for the track. Imo it's waste for a street commuter and would defeat the whole purpose of buying one aside numbers to brag about

i just cant see why i would buy the E92 M3 when the GTR and C63 AMG are cheaper and faster. i've gotten my gf to get a E93 M3 while i get the GTR and C63 LOL so i'll still get to enjoy the M3

From all the reviews I have read the GTR is 'uninspiring and boring' to drive at regular speeds. The limits of the car are top notch, but it sounds like you would rarely be exploring those limits. Stick with an M3, which also has high limits but can be fun to drive at lower speeds as well.

Get the GTR if you want a car with FI that a 5 year old could drive and win races in. Get the M3 if you want a car with an engine Ferrari would be proud of and the heritage, engineering, and technology to back it up and will still make you smile every time you drive it. |

and the gtr definitely does not have any great engineering or technology at all. 0-60 times in the low 3's wont make you smile. not one bit. lets also choose to ignore the fact that dollar for dollar, even with insane msrp markups, nothing can touch the gtr. /sarcasm you'll have a much, much easier time getting your hands on an m3 than a gtr. bmw decided to cater to the masses and make their money with a relatively inferior product (sell outs!), whereas nissan has made more of a car for the purists. id be theyre probably losing alot of money on gtr, but at least nissan can be respected. |

go 6MT!!! and you wont have to make a decision...
why would you spend all that money on an infinity/nissan automatic??? i would have got the GT-R if it came in 6MT.. yet it is going to be more expensive.. hard to get, and you have to pay for every service.. yet a (+) would be its more rare.. merc is just an overpowered C-class.. and the C-class isnt n e thing special... lexus is a joke.. (Cool exhaust pipes tho!) syke and if your main concern is comfort, with the thrill and quality you deserve to get with the money you spend i think you will be more than happy in an m3.. 6MT !!! DRIVE THE CAR!! |

Nissan is allowing the US dealers to rape us by charging +$20K. If they think the car will sell for $90K I'd rather them have that price and we can talk. But this BS it's a $70K car but you have to pay $90K is the same as people paying $2K for a Wii. It's the exact same thing. The BMW is (probably) as good in many ways. The M3 (IMO) has the better engine and this has been said by more than a few leaning experts, and some say the M3 is more fun to drive. Note I didn't say faster (F&F) I said more fun to drive. By using the 3-series which sells 20K a month BMW has a lot of cost built into the whole franchise (R&D money) not just one car. Nissan needs to make back the R&D selling just 1000 GTRs a month. For me is the rear seats in the M3 (real size) as I have wife and two kids. And also the avilibility of the M3 (the GTR is not avilible without huge mark-ups). -- Both are great cars, believe that. I would jump at a GTR for MSRP, but Nissan USA wants the dealers to get rich quick. |

Bottom line: Both cars are amazing -- GT-R for raw speed and M3 for speed and comfort. It's not really an apples to apples comparison, you just have to decide what you want. You will not be dissappointed either way.
End thread

Thanks for all of your input. I will most likely get the M3 after reading your responses... I will try to hold out for the CSL. It's hard when you drive past a BMW dealership and they have two blue, one white, one silver, and one black E92 M3's on their lot (Northern VA BMW dealership).
