Buying an E92 M3
HELP!
I am in the market and looking for something fun to drive. I am looking at both the e46 and M3. Yesterday, I came across this M3 and was curious, what would you guys pay for it. The dealer is asking for $19K i think they are smoking crack. They told me $17K and I think its not even worth that. Would you buy this? KBB puts this car around $13K on the high end for fair condition. I don't think this is good condition. 2009 BMW M3 Coupe 2Dr. - DCT w/ CF Roof - Alpine White / Black Interior Mileage: 109K Owners: 7 Owners Damage Reported: 2 (Front & Rear Minor) Mods: Apex Wheels / Tires (New) Custom Exhaust CF Spoiler CF Diffuser ABS Front Spoiler (Looks like eBay replicate of a vorsteiner lip) Visible issues - Bumper needs to be refinished - No maintenance records aside from what i can get from BMW which is maintained to 80K miles. - Steering wheel needs to be refinished, the leather is torn up (track car?) - Rod Bearings will need to be replaced as I don't see any records it was done. - Interior has no tears, rips, or scuffs. Just heavy wear on the leather, needs some leather treatment. The rest seems stock. For me the question isn't just "what's it worth", but what are other potential immediate costs. I think most will tell you to plan for RBs immediately with that mileage but every maintenance item on this car will add up quick as well unless you plan to DIY... even still $$. Any local shops you could get a PPI? Or know a mechanic you could have look at the car? What's your max budget? |

You might be better off paying $25k for a much better example and save yourself the headache. Accident history with 7 owners and no maintenance records...I don’t even need to see pictures of the car to know to stay far far away.

The 7 owners and spotty maintenance history would give me serious pause.
Regardless of the history of the car though, make sure you get a Pre-Purchase Inspection at a reputable shop or BMW Dealer. This will save you a ton of headache later on. KBB is a nice tool, but they don't sell cars. People will pay much more than KBB value for an excellent example or the right spec. I hope you find the right car as these things are really amazing to drive and own!

Agree with this.. spend a little more and get a car you can get history on. I prefer to shop
Cars that already have major maintenance done because if you pay 18k and then have to pay 4-5k in repairs and rod bearings, you might as spend 25k upfront and get some history and maintenance done. |
