It would have to be after summer. Edge Addicts is running Oct 10, 11. http://www.edgeaddicts.com/events.html. They are one of the more popular texas only groups though. Last time I was there with OG Shark it was quite full.

I would do COTA maybeee late this fall or in 2021... it’s pretty pricey to make a weekend out of it, just track fees alone are usually around $1000 unless you can instruct. Add in hotels, meals out each nightf, track insurance (a must do at COTA imo) and it’s easily a 2k weekend and I’m not very far away.
With some planning though, It’s pretty central and could totally be made to make work. Edge Addicts typically runs similar dates out there every year that are predictable. CHIN puts on a couple of events out there too. And of course PCA/BMW CCA do Schnell Fest usually end of May every year but it can get Hot out there that time of year... fall is usually better

Does not sound like COTA is a place to do 25 track days.

I agree. I wasn't planning on COTA this year due to costs either. Plus I probably won't even be solo approved and that's lame.

Maybe spring 2021? We could always coerce speeddistrict to do a private day.

It’s not, but it’s a nice treat to have close by. There’s two local club tracks in the Dallas area though that have plenty of opportunity for more affordable driving nearly every weekend.

Is there one that's been freshly repaved? Getting a private day there would be much cheaper.

Eagles Canyon Raceway. Almost as long as COTA and would be a lot cheaper.

Eagles Canyon is really nice. They just finished the repaving of the short 1.65mi in September, and opened the 2.75mi course in December. It drives really well, I posted a video of it in the Laptimes thread. Very nice clubhouse facility and plenty of trailer parking. Their calendar has been pretty booked up I think this year since they're the "hot new thing" in town, but doesn't mean it wouldn't be possible to put something together there

In for COTA if it happens. Chin is my favorite there, very easy to do ride-alongs with each other vs other organizers and happy hour is a blast.

I do agree COTA is pricey but it also has the wow factor to pull a bunch of folks in.

What about BIR?

Also, once you're at RA, you can also continue south a little bit farther and hit up the other big Midwest ones like Autobahn, Blackhawk, Gingerman, Grattan, and Putnam. Might be able to plan out a two-week road trip to sample them all?

BTW, COTA was just repaved earlier this month. I agree that it's expensive but worth doing at least once. You are getting a world-class facility with air conditioning, beautiful garages, a decent cafe, etc. Again, if you're going to make the trip, parlay it with some other sightseeing and tracks like Eagles Canyon, MSR Cresson, MSR Houston, TMS, etc.

I hit a couple more 1:59's before the day was done. The buttonwillow bacon cheeseburger swimming in redbull I my stomach may have helped... This was after lunch and I really wanted to hit a few more 59's (or better) to confirm it. Lol hit a couple and felt like I was overdriving the car a little. Sort of sloppy.
All in all, great day at the track.

I'm from Wisconsin. Road America is a fantastic track. I have been there many times but have never driven on it - definitely something I would like to make happen!

I was considering doing a COTA trip in May. But it's just too much money either shipping my car or doing a rental.

If Judy Ray is instructing at the BMW race school; go. She’s a wonderful instructor with gobs of experience (including racing).

BIR is the home track, about 2 hours away. There's just not enough events there to work with my schedule but it might be better this year. Also something like Autobahn Country Club being built a short drive away from my home but they aren't so clear on the timeline of when the track is actually going to be completed.

I might try to drive to Houston this summer to add a track day before going on vacation with family. Looks like it's too early for events being listed in August so I'll keep an eye on it.

I'm planning on the Badger Bimmer Road America event in October but that's about 10 years away. I've been practicing on Forza Motorsport 7 and I'll probably get AC2 if I don't already have it. Should be a good time.
