Three years of flawless ownership and finally an issue
Just a matter of time so all good. Had not used the Carly adapter in years but it appears you now have to subscribe to get codes.
Pretty sure I am going to throw the adapter away but can anyone share with me the most likely culprit(s)? Could this be a ABS wheel sensor? I'll take it to a shop next week but very curious about the most likely causes. |

Usually when a ABS wheel speed sensor stops working, the cruise control will stop working as well. I am not familiar with this but could be something related to your ABS module.

I've had this issue and this is 99% Bosch ABS module. It is a relatively well known issue of E9x generation.
It builds up carbon gunk over time inside and will eventually throw code when one of the pins get stuck. One way to check this is the warning light goes away when cold but returns when hot. Cheapest fix is to get a lightly used module and swap it in.

I would use a scanner to run codes. It could be as simple as a wheel speed sensor as well. $15 part from FCP and a 15-20 min replacement. |

for me, the trifecta Brake/ABS/Traction control lights was the ABS pump module. I had a rebuilt unit from module masters installed (5 yr warranty)
Edit: I should say - I sent my unit to modulemasters and had it rebuilt. Last edited by spiderspider; 01-17-2020 at 06:13 PM.. |

Yes, yes it is! $2787 based on deciding to spring for a new one in 2017.

Put it on a lift. Take an air gun and blow the dust from the rear of the rear wheel bearings. Had this for over 6 months intermittent. Was replacing the wheel bearings when discovered the dust. Been fine for over 30 days.

Not yet and it's driving my crazy seeing the lights on like that. I was working all last week and had no opportunity. Going to drop it off on Tuesday for the diag and go from there. However, based on the post from nissanite I might try to do what he has done.
Rough not having a garage. We sold our house in July and just bought another so I might just wait and use an air gun on the wheel speed sensor. Although that will take a lot of patience as it will be some time before I get to do that. Whatever the resolution I will update the post and I really appreciate the input. |

I got that earlier this year and read a post describing some type of steering reset where you start the car and turn the wheel lock to lock stationary before pulling off. It did the trick for me, lights haven’t returned.

You may want to try to bleed the brakes and ABS module, I know my foxwell will open the ABS ports to allow it to be bled, this will pump out old fluid normally stuck in the ABS which normally does not get bled out

Update. According to the shop's scan tool the LR wheel speed sensor stopped communicating with the ABS module and I saw a screenshot of the data. It was replaced and after driving off the lights came right back on and the scan tool indicated the RR wheel speed sensor stopped sending a signal.
I am suspect of the 'coincidence' that BOTH rear wheel speed sensors failed but am giving them the benefit of the doubt in this case. It's a relatively inexpensive repair especially compared to the Bosch ABS module. So no resolution yet. |

Finally got around to getting this fixed and I suspect blowing out the sensors with an airgun might have done the trick.
Both rear wheel speed sensors were replaced and I have put enough miles on to conclude that was the problem. Also, the car developed an engine whine very similar to sounding as if it were low on power steering fluid or a pulley bearing wearing out. Had the pulleys replaced and that did the trick. Have to give a plug to Tom Bush BMW in Jacksonville since Dealers get bashed so badly all the time. Exceeded my expectations start to finish and would go back. I probably paid more than if I had taken it to an independent but I had a new 4 series loaner and it the shop gave me peace of mind. |
