Another new one - and a few questions
Having now posted in another thread I thought I'd better intorduce myself.
New car to be collected next week, would have it sooner but I have to go on holiday for the weekend so can't pick it up before I go... very tempting to cancel the holiday! My first nice car in Australia after getting over the shock of selling my RS6 in the UK and only being able to buy a 320Ci with the proceeds over here! Couple of questions:- - Chains - planning my first ski holiday in Aus and was planning to drive down to Thredbo. Couple of websites say it is compulsory to fit chain but BMW says you can't and when I asked the dealer about winter wheels or anything like that he told me not to worry as the traction control and LSD would mean that I wouldn't need them anyway. - Brakes - planning on doing some track days in my car. Has anyone fitted the OEM "sport" pads - do dealers carry them - iPod - having read some of the threads on here I specifically told the dealer I wanted the "right" iPod lead when I collected my car (the Y-lead with the separate sound as I have a lot of downloaded music). He was completely baffled by this. What are peoples experiences. - Phone - I'll repeat my phone question - some posts on other thread suggested people got a phone too? Thanks! |

Hi and welcome,
I initially read your name as SydneyM3Porn and thought .. "there's a poster who REALLY LIKES teir cars" Unfortunately I can't answer all your questions but I'll have a stab: 1. Chains ... sorry, don't know. It's been ages since I went skiing in Australia, but last time I went, it was compulsory to carry chains but not necessarily to put them on. I think you are pretty game taking tour new M3 to Thredbo in the ski season. 2. Brake pads ... no idea 3. iPod. You need to insist that since you are paying for iPod integration, that you are provided with the equipment needed to access DRM protected music on your iPod. Maybe you should e-mail your dealer this picture of the BMW iPod Y-connector (courtesy of OzStriker): 4. I recieved a Nokia 6233 (think that was the number) and a cradle for the phone with my car. Others in Australia have also recived the same phone. Cheers |

Thanks, I definitely planned to beat the drum on the cable - so many $$$$ and for it not to work would erk me somewhat - especially after the barney I just had with them over the trade-in on my old car...
Can I ask which dealer you bought yours from? (re the phone..) Again having ponied up I want to make sure I get everything I can! As for Thredbo, I used to drive down to the alps quite a lot and recently had the pleasure of piloting an AMV8 through the snow. Had to keep checking that stability was on as it was sliding all over the road which kept the adrenaline level quite high! Might just grab some chains to throw in teh boot and show anyone who asks. I only drive about 5k a year so a good opportunity to get some run-in km's on the car. |

^ I bought mine from Sydney BMW Rushcutters Bay. I think OzStriker bought his from Doncaster BMW in Melbourne. We both recieved a Nokia 6233. This phone is not the most modern on the market, but it is one of the few Nokias that works fully with BMW Bluetooth and it is a 3G phone, so you can use internet apps on it. It won't do video calls, but they are a gimmick anyway.
An Aston Martin to Thredbo? If I had one of those, I'd be buying an old 4WD banger (maybe an Audi S5) to take to the snow. When I was looking through the options list I saw "ski bag" and thought, yeah, they are going to sell a lot of those .. not. |

Driving the Aston in Europe... Gstaad and then St Moritz... felt very James Bond. Here's hoping on the phone, would save me having to upgrade my trusty (and needing a fourth battery after I've worn another one out) 5yr old+ phone. |
