Secondary Air Pump - Delete or Leave?
Are there any disadvantages to removing the secondary air pump?
I'm decatted and already have a BPM Stage 2 tune with cold start delete, and I don't need to check emissions where I'm at. I also do not have any errors currently. Just that I'm going to be removing the plenum for some other work and was wondering if I should delete the SAP while I'm in there, or just leave it as is. Please advise. Thanks. |

I might be mistaken but I believe the secondary air pump is there because the engine runs rich when’s you first start it. So it’s purpose is to balance that out

I believe it helps to heat the cats faster at start up. Tuning it off has no impact on the motor, just slows the warm up of the emissions system if its still there on your car. Its also a nice way to make the car less loud for your neighbors if you leave early in the morning for work. Ive run my car this way for a while now with no issues. I like it.

I removed mine on my track/race car. It's a PITA to attach the block off plates - which I don't believe you can buy anywhere (made my own). If it's primarily a street car, leave it in. It's a lot of effort to remove.

I believe the same block off plate (x2) used for the e46 works on e92. There's also plates made by Fall-Line which includes a provision to mount the heater core. Future Classic sells it. https://futureclassic.us/collections...ne-motorsports

No reason to remove, and very difficult to get block off plates in. Would leave alone.

I have a tune that disables the emissions check (no cats) but, cold start is still enabled. Would simply disconnecting the SAP electrical disable cold start or will it create issues?

Can't really remember the weight. However, with it's location and the difficulty (it's VERY difficult to get those plates on) it's not worth doing unless you're very serious about ever pound you can save. |

https://www.ecstuning.com/b-victor-r...727514860~vic/ It's a pain but I deleted mine. Those are the parts needed to blank off the rear head ports. 2 of each and I borrowed my friend's tiny asian hands to do the heavy lifting |

You can pull the 40amp fuse for the pump, it may still cam phase and will definitely throw a fault. Proper way is to have it retuned.
